Boat Show Season

The prime time for boat show season is starting up seeing as most of the guys here are winterized right now. Anybody planning on going to any? We have 3 going on here close to each other. There's NY boat show the last week of January I will definitely be attending. Then the Hartford(CT) show and the...

Re: Outboard resurgence.

No problem. If I go with a stern drive, my mind was made up months ago. As far as experience, have you owned or driven the new VP 380 yet? Thanks. I have not. I have driven the merc 380. The dealership, which conveniently is my home marina, has a R5 with the VP380 in it. I will make a stop in for t...

Re: Outboard resurgence.

Guys, the VP 380 that I'm using for a comparison to the BB just came out a couple years ago, so unless you owned a new boat from 2014 or newer, you never owned it. It's not the old 350, or 5.7L or random GM small block. It's a 6.0L used in the GM 2500HD trucks. Quicker, faster, more torque, faster ...

Re: Outboard resurgence.

I have first hand experience with both. I have a 230 and my father has a 226. I have the 300hp merc small block and my father has the VP 7.4 300HP that was discontinued in 2000. The main difference is he can maintain speed no matter what his load is. The engine is all torque. He has about 5 mph more...

Re: Outboard resurgence.

Get an R7 with a merc 380 big block with the sea core and close water cooled. Can't go wrong there.

Re: Outboard resurgence.

actually formula has a 35 ss that can be configured to out boards with triples, You Tube has a couple of the videos on the formula 430 from the Miami boat show, the swim platform is huge, you now just have the ladder on the sides, I think the A40 with triples or even quads would be a really sweet r...

Re: Outboard resurgence.

I think you'll see Cobalt expanding their OB line. Formula has 2 now but nothing under 35 feet. So they're starting to dabble as well. Cobalt usually innovates but I think In this circumstance they're taking their time to get it right. Talking to the dealer here he seems to think you'll get the cs3 ...

Re: Cobalt partners with Facheris design firm

I bet they're going after the formula 430 SSC if I had to guess. Or maybe designing a whole new line of outboards all together.
