Re: Red Flags

A dive flag typically indicates a diver may be in the water, but is really for the safety of the diver when at the surface. It's commonly used for snorkeling, spearfishing, etc. too, so may be a reasonable option for swimming off the boat if they don't like a solid flag?

Re: Red Flags

Not sure how I missed this late last season, but it was very timely then. My crew and I religiously used the orange skier down flag when starting or retrieving a downed skier or tuber (etc.). We also ALWAYS use the flag when we are stopped / at anchor, and we have someone around us in the water. Th...

Re: John's minor stereo upgrade, pt. 2

John. @jhnmdahl Did you end up getting that wifi router that you linked above? If so, did it work as expected to get a network going on your boat? Anything that didn't work as you expected? I didn't install it on my boat since I don't do the party bus thing, but knowing that I could add WiFi for a ...

Re: Ideal rope length for wakeboard

45 to 50 ft seems to be about the minimum, with people having different preferences between 50-75' Lots of sites recommend 60-65' for a beginner, up to 75' or more once you've got some skills nailed down. I wonder if FirstStar is thinking about wake surfing instead of wakeboarding? That would put hi...

Re: New R6...Registration letter font and anchor suggestions

I believe the letters are Times Regular (not Times New Roman) stretched to 125%, and the numbers are Garamond Italic stretched to 120%. Both fonts are easy to find online if you don't already have them.

Re: R5 swim platform repair

Is there an insert the screws are crewing into, or is it just fiberglass? If it's just fiberglass, I'd think an epoxy-based filler like Devcon would be a good choice, maybe something like

New Monsoon engines

There have been hints that Cobalt is bringing the Monsoon engines (GM/Mercruiser engines) made or tweaked in-house to Cobalt boat soon. They've been doing it with Malibu boats for a while - just curious what info people may have on their adoption into the Cobalt line.

Re: 2021 VP 380 oil Weight

The 40 is the most important number - viscosity when cold is less important, except that a smaller difference between the two numbers means they had to use fewer friction modifiers in the oil and it may wear slightly better. I've been using the 5qt jugs of Mobil 1 15w-50 as long as I've had my boat,...

Re: Starting Stereo/Electronics Upgrade Project

Jwill, No, the Ram mount is plenty strong to lock a Garmin like yours or mine into position. I've been out in some pretty choppy weather, and the chartplotter hasn't moved. It's a great solution if there's not empty space on a dash panel to mount it. I used a metal backing plate behind the fiberglas...

Beautiful boat, and a lot of engine for something that size! I bet it's a blast to drive compared to other 22' boats on the lake.

I've used marinepartseurope to find parts, then just Googled the part number to find the best price.

Nice work, guys!

What's the wood Cobalt uses on the dash - Makassar ebony? I could see being extra fancy and trying to match that some day, but for some reason exotic tropical hardwoods aren't getting cheaper.

Re: New R8 Trailer

Are you saying you're trying to sell a trailer? Is it for a 2022 R8? They didn't make the R8 in 2002. Pics would be great, and since Cobalt doesn't make or specify trailers, the brand and model of the trailer will help with a sale as well. If you have a ballpark price, that will be a buyer's next qu...
