Re: Salt Water for the Weekend

". . . the tide will be going out against the wind." That's the tricky part of your trips. Those opposing forces make it more difficult to calculate and navigate. I have a lot of experience navigating opposing currents and winds. But no experience with opposing tidal currents and winds. (C...

Re: Marine versus Teak Oil

". . . absorb at a different rate."

That's my guess. I should have taken the teak down to bare wood, then applied the Marine.

"Cat walking on the finished product?"

Interesting theory -- though no cat-paw evidence on the wood or cats tracking Marine everywhere.

Wind/Current

I suggest this article: https://www.boatus.org/study-guide/planning/weather, especially this section: "Wind and Current"

If it were me, new to such conditions, I'd practice before the trip.

Marine versus Teak Oil

Anybody have experience using "Sikkens Cetol Marine Wood Finish?" I've been using their teak oil, but mistakenly bought the Marine. Strange thing happened: Lightly sanded and cleaned the teak (per usual). Applied the Marine (per usual). Next day, strange "splotches" appeared all ...

"3500 RPM for top speed"

That is not WOT rpm. That's about cruise rpm. WOT rpm is around 4500. At WOT, you should get around low 40's mph.

Re: '94 220 Trim Limit switch

A7: Does that drive have two pucks? One port for limit. One starboard for sensor. Hard to see how either of those could cause a trim switch to malfunction.

"Do you use trim tabs though?"

Not in chop. Too many other things to monitor. I understand, though, that they can be helpful.

Re: Trim Tabs

". . . drive efficiently in chop." The technique I was taught (for chop, not waves): Trim outdrive up and increase speed to the point just before spray comes over the bow. If you try to go down and slow, you get buffeted by the chop. There are different techniques for dealing with waves an...

"And cleaning recommendations for the out drive." What I've done: 50/50 water/bleach (or industrial cleaner). Spray on, let sit about 15'. Then power wash (the grime, not the paint). Once, my drive was way beyond "grimmy." Had to use 50/50 muriatic acid (with gloves, goggles, mas...

In cases like that, I've replaced the tubing with Pex and used SharkBite fittings.

". . . running temp and you shut it off it . . ."

Did it restart per normal? Is the fuel pump external or internal to the tank? If external and hard to start when hot, you might check for "heat soak."

Re: New R6...Registration letter font and anchor suggestions

"I need to get an anchor and would like it to fit in the anchor locker . . ."

The primary consideration should not be: does it fit? But rather your typical anchoring conditions.

Add a windlass. Push a button. No need to worry about does it fit.

Used that. Didn't work.

"If it starts to crush You can put strips of metal in where it starts to crush."

Thanks for that. Didn't think of it.
