Re: Thinking of a new tow vehicle.

We upgraded the wife’s daily driver and family tow vehicle Friday. We had been looking at used Expeditions for a couple of months, but then they dropped a pile of incentives on the XLT last week. Combined with employee pricing, it made no sense to buy used. Ignore the fact that both vehicles are dir...

Re: Tell me about your tough tube

I like the lay down tube NB. The kids and Mom were all about sitting on a tube until we cranked it up a bit. The jarring on your back is no good. That tube has a 510lb weight limit too.

Tell me about your tough tube

We just trashed our third tube in three years. Typically, the bladder leaks first, gets patched a couple of times and then the cover fails. We ride aggressively. We double up with the small kids and the bigger ones ride single. Anyone have a “tough tube” recommendation? Considering going back to tra...

Re: Fuel Costs

I was agreeing with you (“red” gas was typed as “rec” gas and autocorrected). With your background, maybe you can shed some light on the other part of what was said. I have a station by me that sells off road diesel and rec gas. They claim that there are no road taxes paid on the off road diesel and...

Re: Fuel Costs

The on water marinas aren’t paying road taxes on the fuel. About 50 cents a gallon between state and federal depending on the state. That’s pretty good amount of extra profits. We just had a conversation about that very thing a couple of weeks ago. Definitely pads the profit margin. I wonder if the...

Re: The joys of trailering.

LT’s on mine 275/45/20 Goodyear’s. I think they are original to the trailer and still look good. They typically don’t roll more than half mile or so to launch, but performed great ont the 13 hour round trip to Lake Erie and back last summer. I asked EZ Loader about LT’s and was told it was likely du...

Re: Box Anchor

I used the box anchor on my last boat with no chain and it works great. As it was a pain to break down I left open and it’s still fit. It would hold in sandy mud at a 3-1 scope in wind. 2-1 if calm. Now they do bring up some river bottom so the trick as they are heavy to rinse is to re- tie it off ...

Kayaks

We are looking at buying kayaks for the lake. We are going to buy 4-6, so cost is the main factor. I figure the kids will use them more than anyone. I want sit on top to avoid swamping issues and to make them more usable for jumping in the lake and reboarding in deep water. Academy has a big sale th...

Re: My experience with the boat show this weekend and the quest for an R5

To the full size SUV comment, I towed my A25 from Louisville to Port Clinton,OH (Lake Erie) last summer behind our 5.4 Expedition. The only thing I didn’t like about the whole trip was the fuel mileage. 8.5. Both ways. The wind didn’t seem to bother us or the wake of passing trucks. In and out of th...

Re: New Cobalt dealer in Louisville . . .

It’s great to hear that we have a local dealer again. It’s even better (maybe not for my wallet) that they are located right around the corner from work. My BiL bought a used Mastercrafr from them 2 summers ago. The post sale experience has been fantastic for him. The travel to his boat shed an hour...
