Re: Salt Water for the Weekend

Millions of boats run in salt every single day. When you get back into fresh water the engine will flush itself or you can flush it with a hose. Keep the boat wiped down during your trip and give it a real good bath when you get home. Enjoy your trip! Good to know the engine will flush itself. Than...

Re: Salt Water for the Weekend

Go and enjoy yourself. People not familiar with SW life think its like pouring water on the wicked witch. Live my entire life in SW with plenty of boats. My last was for 20 years and raw water cooled and still on the original set of manifolds and risers. Its important to flush the engine and with th...

Re: Towing an R5 Arch Down

I would not trust the locking mechanism that keeps the arch down. It is only locked on one side and it is springed wanting to go in the up position. I can only imagine if you hit a bump hard enough it might bounce out of the lock. Much more secure with tower up. Why not tow with tower up? Is there a...

Exhaust Manifold Temp

I have a 2021 R5 350 VP with dual Glass Panels. Trying to determine if exhaust manifold temperature can be read. I have the gauge set up but reads 1331 at all times. Exhaust manifold temperature is displayed on the EVC display but it reads 1331 degrees as well. Trying to determine if it is supported...

Re: VP GEN 5 V8-300 Alarms

What alarm code were you receiving (Hi Exhaust Temp?). I was receiving this running hard , above 4500. It was not a hard limp but if I kept it under 3500 it ran fine. Water temp and oil pressure were fine. Turned out one of the exhaust manifold anodes was installed backwards. The anode is cut on an ...

Re: R8

What I don't get about the outboards is that it takes all of the swim platform. I mean, for a fishing boat sure but a runabout? Agree, No interest in a OB and I am in SW. Never understood that thought process. VP is closed cool with only the the exhaust manifolds and risers being a concern, opposed...

Re: R3 - engine size

I have a 350 in a R5 and its plenty. Low 50's lightly loaded with plenty of torque over a wide RPM range. 300HP in a R3 should be similar.

Re: 2020 R5 - Tower pre-wired?

I know they come pre-wired on the manual fold tower. Pop the four plastic covers where the speakers mount and you should see the wires. They drop down on both sides. You should be able to see the port set by opening the bench seat where the breakers are and looking up toward the mount.

Re: R5 snap in carpet

Are you still looking for a R5 snap in carpet? I have a Sea Grass in Silver Ash (gray). I had the piece on the engine cover cut so you do not need to unsnap to lift the engine hatch.

Re: HELP! With my new R7

Lastly, my 2016 had a dual selector battery switch (1 Battery On, 2 Batteries On, and OFF). The 2018 just has Off and On. Anyone ever changed a single to a dual and is this difficult? Does this new battery switch look like this one? That a dual circuit battery switch so it basically has two switche...

Re: Add a stock Arch to a 2019 R7

I had the dealer install mine when I purchased the boat. It is something they are familiar doing. Cost was pretty close to the list price of the option. You will also need to get your canvas modified to fit around the tower base. Will Samson sell that tower direct to you and more importantly will th...

Re: Oil Extractor not extracting. Why?

You may just want to invest in a Jabsco hand pump that threads onto the dipstick like others have mentioned. I have used one for years until yesterday when I noticed a crack at the top. I resorted to a pump that requires sticking a tube down like what you have. It works great on my SeaDoo but it cou...

Re: Bilge Heater

Any recommendations on a bilge heater. I have the quick drain system but starting to hear issues with it during hard freezes. In N. GA, doesn’t hit freezing often and boat stays on the lift. Don't you have the Volvo engine with closed cooling? I would be curious to hear about the issues with the qu...

Re: Stability

Less deadrise will rock less not more. Is it single or dual OB's. A lot of weight higher up adds a higher righting moment. It would be interesting to hear from R8 sterndrive owners. With the weight lower in the bilge and within the footprint of the hull I would think this issue is not felt.
