Re: Thinking of converting from Surge to EOH
I converted my old trailer to EOH and I loved it. When I got my new trailer, I specified EOH and still love it. I highly recommend EOH, especially if you plan on any kind of long tow. Now, the one thing you need to be sure of is that your system will be compatible with your brake controller in your ...

Re: Adding tongue length to a trailer
My trailer is going to have 2 feet of tongue added and they suggested lifting the ball higher when putting it in the water, so I also bought an adjustable hitch that I can raise the ball 12 inches from where the flat tow position is. I just wish there was a slightly steeper ramp near here. Where I p...

Re: Adding tongue length to a trailer
3x5 venture trailer (aluminum I beam). According to the manufacturer, I can add 2 feet. Better than nothing, they also recommend using two draw bars. One level, and one 6 inches higher

Adding tongue length to a trailer
Hey all, After a bad trip two years ago, I decided to get a new trailer for my boat. After many months of waiting, I was finally able to get a new one, but even though this is a longer trailer, I am having issues getting my boat off the trailer on our ramp (our local ramp is a very shallow angle. It...

Re: My wife wants a boat with beds, I need suggestions.
I've been on the northern Chesapeake up near the Elk River and the Susquahana, and I personally do not like boating there in my 242. Yes, it can handle the waves and such, but the chop really ends up hurting my back trying to move around. I prefer lakes and rivers/canals Lake boating is very differe...

Re: Does this trailer make my boat look big?
FHAREN, that trailer looks GOOD. More importantly, it looks like you can back that thing down the ramp far enough without dunking your truck's tires. Nice E/H brake setup too.

Cobalt 242 (or 232) bow eye to transom dimensions
Does anyone with a 242 (or 232) have a bow eye to transom dimension? I've tried searching, but not come up with much luck. Unfortunately, I am in need of a new trailer and my boat is about 800 miles away right now. My old trailer was a minimum 17' 6", but it was REALLY close to maxing out the w...

GPS/Marine Radio for Cobalt '08 - 242
I need to replace my old GPS (Garmin 478) that's finally given up the ghost. I was hoping to get some recommendations. I am willing to upgrade my marine radio as well if it increases functionality. Looking for a system that has good depth markers and GPS placement with maps of US coast - specificall...

Re: Fox Chain O Lakes boating
Sounds like the lakes have changed a bit in the past 15 years. Background info, I lived in Antioch and Lake Villa for 30 years and we used to go in off of either Sandbar or Chain-O-Lake state park in my father's boat. (21 ft Raven). My grandmother used to live on of Petite and my mom still owns land...

Re: Fox Chain O Lakes boating
I will probably stick to the upper chain. My godparents used to live on the Fox down in Algonquin, so my parents would occasionally take their first boat (a wooden 50s Trojan sea queen I think) down there to visit, but after an engine mishap (they either hit something or age failure) and their old 4...

Re: Fox Chain O Lakes boating
Thanks a bunch! Very much appreciated. I lived in Antioch/Lake Villa for 30 years, but the past 17 years I've been out east in Delaware due to that darn moving cheese. My final decision on bringing the boat will be just before I leave to be sure the water level won't be too high like the last time I...

Fox Chain O Lakes boating
Hey all, I have a Cobalt 242 and plan on hauling it out to the Chain this year to take my nephews for their first boating adventure. Now, this boat has a slightly deeper draft than the old Raven my father had when I lived out there, so does anyone have any recommendations on channels or lakes I shou...

Re: Fresh water vs Sea water
Salt water is much harder on the engine and the lower units, especially if you store them in the water or don't wash/flush them after use or store it in the water. I own a 242 since new and have very low hours on it, but it still had to have repairs done on it due to salt corrosion from the brackish...

Re: Tubing question
Make sure you check the rating on your tow hook. For instance, mine is rated at 1000 lbs That one looks a little skimpier, but the rating may be something other than the metal pole.
