Re: Cobalt after Malibu take over

My R3 has served me well (albeit with it's own issues), but if I were to shop boats today, Cobalt wouldn't be on my list, unless I found an R5 or R7 new on a dealer lot that was forgotten......

Re: Dealer Problems

Erickson is where I bought mine as well.... And what did they get for their service levels? They got their dealership pulled from them by Cobalt (the real reason was that Malbu made a bad decision by going with another dealer in the area)

Re: Stainless steel cleaning

If it's just to "buff up" some stainless, I'd look at something like Eagle One Cotton Wadding metal polish. If you have minor rust staining then try Barkeeper's freind with a damp rag. Coat with a good wax after either.

Re: Led drain plug

These things always crack me up. For being at anchor, they are probably decent in clear water. BUT, it is technically illegal to run with them on at night if you really want to follow the regs. Where I boat, you wouldn't get more than about 2ft of illumination.

Re: R3 - engine size

I have a 2016. It will run about 46/48 in flat water, but it gets out of the hole very well, I can't tell a big tube is behind it. Where it really shines is in the mid RPM's. If I crack the throttle at 18mph (which is just on plane) and you are standing up but not holding on, it will knock someone o...

Re: OEM Table Alternative - Cutting Board??

I'll be the other side- I find teak oil is sticky until it dries and needs to be redone every few months (yes, it's a small area), but a good Spar varnish shoudl lask for years. Cetol, as mentioned is another option, but I never liked their colors or the way it finished---you can tell Cetol from a m...

Re: Been awhile

Glad to hear all are doing well. Never went to the ATL boat show as the list of exhibitors was very underwhelming. Without going into detail, let's just say that 2023 wasnt' the greatest ending on a personal note, but part of life everyone goes through. From a boating standpoint, the fall/winter suc...

Re: Biting Flies

I still have some 100% deet I bourbon Africa years ago. One spray and they literally fall from the sky when they fly by. Probably not recommended for frequent use

Re: Stability

Cobalt redesigned the even numbered R series with less deadrise, meaning a less deep vee presumably more better wake/wave production. The cost comes at a flatter hull that will roll more at anchor

Listing could be batteries or any source of weight—fuel, ballast, etc. it doesn’t take a lot

Re: Trim Button Sensitivity

My 2016 R3 is NOT that way, in fact, the trim button is super easy and makes almost a positive click you can feel when it engages. It is a Volvo, which are known to trim slowly. I wonder if the new models are having issues because they switched trim switch suppliers when it went to Malbu? Same parts...

Re: Coolant mixing with Power steering fluid

My boat had that when it was new-- 2016 R3. I noticed it when I was checking the levels after day one. The body of the tank is common between power steering and coolant, but there are 2 separate chambers. There was a known bad seal/gasket/design and caused the mix. The entire coolant tank will need ...

Re: Fiberglass cracking - BRAND NEW R4 Surf 2023

I had spider cracks 3 times in my 2016 on the swim step. The first 2 times they fixed under warranty, the last time was less than 30 days out of warranty and Cobalt wouldn't touch it. Don't wait.
