Re: No Oil Pressure(?)

Update: after one month in the shop I finally heard from the service manager that they had exhausted all options, and realized they needed a special tool to test the pump system (suspect somewhere in the drive system for the pump). They then came back and said probably a bearing, will need to send o...

Re: No Oil Pressure(?)

Update: My Cobalt's been in the shop since February 15th, so over a month. They've eliminated simple fixes like the sender, the oil pump, or other things. Their current analysis says it's a bearing that's preventing the pump from pumping. So the engine has to go out to a marine engine rebuilder to b...

Re: No Oil Pressure(?)

Thanks billk, I really appreciate all the feedback and advice. I decided it was just too big a job for an inexperienced mechanic like myself. I'm taking it in to Rinker, the largest dealer/service center on this lake. Apparently the $615 is an estimate and none of it is due up front. So, I should kn...

Re: No Oil Pressure(?)

jwill - The engine did not shut down, just beeped. We were able to drive home, fortunately only 100 yards. All - The engine that was put in after the freeze was rebuilt by Jasper Marine. I talked to Jasper (great guys, very helpful) and they suggested that it might be the "oil pump drive"....

Re: No Oil Pressure(?)

billk - Thanks so much for the very complete response and suggestions. I will check with my mechanic again about how he ran the test, but he's been a Volvo guy for 20 years and is actually the guy who installed this engine when it was new (he used to work for the now-defunct marine repair shop). He'...

Re: No Oil Pressure(?)

Thanks guys, that's good advice and it's exactly what we did. My mechanic brought his tester over and it showed that there was no oil pressure from the pump. So, the sender's good and the gauge is good, and I'm running out of alternatives to having to replace the oil pump. BTW, the engine is less th...

No Oil Pressure(?)

Hey guys - My 2006 262 started beeping like crazy, turns out the oil pressure gauge is reading zero. I checked the oil, topped it off (just inside the SAFE line, not overfilled). When I turn the key to power the oil pressure gauge moves from pegged left to 0#. So, the gauge is working - right? I had...

Re: Vinyl Paint - Color Match and Other Advice?

Finally got around to trying out the Rub & Restore paint on my deteriorating vinyl. I purchased 2 oz. in Marine White for $22. It's very thin, each coat is barely detectable, but after 8 coats I'm semi-pleased with the results. I went through most of the 2 oz. bottle on this one seat (15" x...

Thru-Hull AC Port Installaion

It's a very simple job to install this thru-hull port. The aft bulkhead (between rear seats and engine compartment) may be thick fiberglass for the lower half but it's just 3/4" fiberboard on the upper half. Drilled through in 3 seconds and installed the port. Now I can connect shore power to t...

I haven't forgotten to post the results, just haven't had a chance to try out this new stuff. Should be able to get to it in a week or so.

Re: Lower Unit Shakes When Turning

The U joint or universal joint looks something like this, and is not a bolt: https://www.amazon.com/Volvo-Penta-U-Joint-Driveshaft-3852384/dp/B007I95R7M It's not actually rocket science to replace, and since you're likely pulling the drive unit to look at it and align it anyway the additional cost ...

Re: Lower Unit Shakes When Turning

". . . dead-end canal and have to turn this 28' boat around in 40' of space." Have you tried the crabbing technique, aka the "pivot turn"? Executed properly, you can easily pivot her 180 degrees in that space. Oh sure, that always works, just takes longer and not as satisfying a...

Re: Vinyl Paint - Color Match and Other Advice?

Thanks TwoDuck - I hadn't heard of that brand before. You're right, it looks legit, mostly great reviews. I just ordered 2 oz. ($22 with shipping). I'll be sure and circle back to let y'all know if/how it works. PS: For color matching, the company offers a "Marine White" which looks to be ...

Re: Vinyl Paint - Color Match and Other Advice?

Thanks Titanium - For sure I've used pretty much every product on the market to eliminate mildew as a likely culprit. All the Star Brite and other stuff, even some fairly strong industrial stuff with a scrub brush. I'm confident that it's a deterioration of the vinyl because when I used the harsh st...
