Re: Stainless ladder considerations and anti-corrosion treatments

You're both echoing what I had already told myself from the get-go and I guess I was looking for a way around the arguement against 304 with the 'super solution'. :D
Wishful thinking, probably have to give up on the design I lked and select something else in 316.

Stainless ladder considerations and anti-corrosion treatments

I am considering a replacement ladder that looks perfect for me in all but is 304 rather than 316. What are opinions on using 304 for a ladder that is pretty much always submerged in Salt Water (when actually in the water)? The boat is normally only in for 3-4 days max over a weekend (on my Buoy) an...

Re: Trailer Tongue Weight Scale

I got a cheap one from EBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/192874481388 These are typically rated to be 3% (this particular one linked does not state) But honestly, if it's even 10%, does it really matter? I mean conversely, if scale was absolutely accurate and your measured weight was 50lb off the 'ideal...

Re: Winterizing 8.1 GXi E

I no longer worry about draining it - I flush 5 gals of 'pink' RV/Marine antifreeze through it once its at temp (actually after doing the oil/filter change first) so whatever rsidual is left anywhere in the system is going to be coolant rather than water. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000AXQU2/?t...

Re: Oil Extractor not extracting. Why?

I just thought of another quick test - remember trick of putting a straw in a drink, then sealing the opening with your finger and you pull out the straw and you have a straw full of liquid? Put your hose (alone, not connected to pump) down the tube to the length that equates to your dipstick length...

Re: Oil Extractor not extracting. Why?

Is it possible you are 'bottoming out' the hose, so it's sealing itself to the bottom of the pan? Try pulling up an inch or so when hit 'bottom' just to see if that helps It sounds like maybe the hose is either in too far (either 'sealing' against bottom or curling back up above the level) or not in...

Re: Oil Extractor not extracting. Why?

Use a pump that threads into the garden hose at the top of the dipstick tube. No need at all to send an even smaller tube down the dipstick hole If I'm interpreting correctly what you're saying (i.e. no line down through the dip tube, just connected at the top), how does that get the oil from the s...

Re: Bilge Heater

Just got our first (near) freeze of the season last night - it's supposed to get down to 30/31 this weekend though My heater itself is in the exact same location as last year, but the sensor is actualy in a different location, a little further removed (and higher) than it was last year, hence the 's...

But it's also a good idea to do a flush with boat/RV anti-freeze anyway - that way any liquid remaining in the system is going to be the coolant and therefor can't freeze.

Re: Bilge Heater

I have the Twin Hornet - great piece of equipment https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F996452 Just plug it in and forget about it. I also put one of these in my bilge compartment to track what's going on in there https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0872ZWV8X?th=1 This shows the heater cycling on and off at ...

Re: Swim platform ladder for 2007 232

I found this one in a search which appears to have a Cobalt part number https://www.greatlakesskipper.com/cobalt-boat-telescoping-ladder-404802-2-step-stainless-under-mount? - not sure of the origin of these. The best part is that it IS 316 Stainless. a49836e8b87582504606788c679a7516[1].jpg 760b8ba9...

Re: Converting from open cooling to closed cooling system

Thank you @NorthForkers - that was very gracious. A Post Script - I just did my Winterization this weekend - as Part of that process I flush with RV Anti-Freeze (the pink stuff) leaving the residual in the system. Now I wanted to add a Neutra Salt injection as the AF was depleting (as per a normal e...

Re: Converting from open cooling to closed cooling system

Yes, that's pretty much exactly what I do Bruce. There are occasions when I might leave the boat on the Buoy overnight and so fresh water flush not possible; and especially for that situtaion the NeutraSalt system is invaluable. Anyone can actually install one of these on pretty much any boat really...
