Re: Purchasing Discounts
Not recent and probably not attainable now, but I got 30% off on a build to order 2020 R5.

Congrats! Just a suggestion on how to purchase options. Negotiate a % off on any selected options. Then look at the menu. If you are on the fence about something, get it now.

Re: Still looking for an R5 but got a ride on an R6
According to Cobalt prop sheet, in 2019, R5s with 350/380/430 all got FH6. 300 got FH5. My 2019 VP V8-380-DP certainly has FH6.

Re: Still looking for an R5 but got a ride on an R6
I also came from a prior 25' ish Bryant bowrider with a VP 8.1, so I hear you... We drove an R5 with a 350, but had one built to order with the 380. Mostly went with the 380 for larger displacement, lower frequency engine noise, and possibly longer life. It is plenty fast for me and very responsive ...

Re: Latest SW for Garmin 742 Plus.
Did Cobalt move to the 742 plus from the 7607 in 2021 for the R5? Our 2020 R5 has 7607s and the update did not make the gauges look like that. Don't know. When I go to the app Active Captain it lists GPSMAP 742 Plus SW V28.10 for both panels. My ActiveCaptain for 2020 R5 says GPSMAP 7607 J1939 v20....

YES! I had a similar horror story on an older boat. So easy to change in the new Volvo's and space in the R5.

Re: Garmin's failing intermittently
Super nice job with the diagnosis. Thank you. I am experiencing the same issue on my 2019 R5. Started with intermittent issues and progressed to the screens not turning on at all. At this point the Garmins are dead. Just ordered two relays for $9.88. Will install and report. Welcome - would be awes...

Re: What's This? Has power when batter off.
I have this unit on my R5 but the LED's are not lit at any time. I believe a complete system requires an external sensor mounted by the outdrive on the outside the boat (which I do not have). If you do not have this sensor you may want to look into disconnecting. However since the LED's are on I be...

My 2020 R5 with VP380 came with it and was not ordered or on the build sheet.

Re: Summerizing a 2020 R5 Surf
I do have one more question. If the raw water side has been drained for the winter, what is the process to put water back into it prior to starting the engine to avoid the dry impeller? There must be a process given draining the raw water part of the cooling system is common practice to winterize t...

Re: Summerizing a 2020 R5 Surf
I have used nothing but Easy Drain, and more recently a temperature triggered "bilge heater" (light bulb) to weather the last few Atlanta winters. Note that Atlanta winter's are not particularly harsh. As VT said, it really is as simple as opening and closing the easy drain system. You sho...

Re: 350-CE Exhaust Temperature Alarm
I put the drive in reverse and backed up a bit which cleared it. That's a bit surprising - maybe something on the intake the came off with the opposite direction. On my last boat, I had an 8.1Gi that had an overheat issue. Love closed loop now that I have it - much fewer engine parts cooled with la...
