Spark plugs

Volvo recommends their own part number 3858996 gapped to .060 inches, stating you can go 300 hours between changes instead of 100 hours only if you use their plugs. But, it looks like they are the same as: Champion RS12PYP (people report getting these in the Volvo boxes) AC 41-932 AC 41-933 (platinu...

Re: MEMBER #5 HELLO ALL

Welcome Tim, and thanks for stopping by. Nice deal on a nice boat - there's a Great Lakes regional page on here (near the bottom of the listings) where you can mention a good dealer or good service as well. I really like the look of the white forward arch/wakeboard tower on that one - ended up going...

Lower drive unit oil (non-Volvo)

The service manual for my 5.7L penta says to refill with fresh GL-5 synthetic gear lubricant or mobilube 1 shc 75w-90 (meeting or exceeding MIL-L-2105C or D, API GL-4 or GL-5). While Mobil 1 75w-90 meets GL5, the Mobilube was a similar full synthetic with no limited slip additive - now replaced by M...

Oil for Volvo Penta marine engines

What is Volvo Penta oil? According to someone who appears to be in the know, it's Mobil 1 15w-50 in Europe, and plain 30w synthetic in the US. Fortunately, Mobil 1 15w-50 is available at any Walmart. Check out the original posts by "wingnut" at: http://forum.chaparralboats.com/index.php?sh...

A few reviews of my favorite smaller Cobalt - the 210

Nice magazine review in Power Boating Canada, starting on p. 26. Note their test boat had the Volvo V8-225 I eventually ordered too: http://www.powerboating.com/magazines/pbc/2013/28-5 and a video "review" that's a nice walkthrough for people without a Cobalt dealer in your neighborhood: ....

Boattest.com review of Cobalt 302

They did a nice review of the Cobalt 302, including a video and performance testing if you log in or register. Tested with dual Mercriuser MX 6.2 engines, with a nice performance chart that shows fuel economy at various speeds (tops out on-plane at around 3000 rpm/1.6mpg). Check out: http://www.boat...

Cobalt 276 w/video review

There's a good review of the 276, including a video review if you're logged in (email address only) at boattest.com. It doesn't include their own test results, and has some interesting comments on options and their relative cost for the boat.

26SD review on boattest.com

Boattest.com has posted a review of the 26SD, but unusually doesn't include test results even for those registered/logged in. the whole deck boat thing isn't my favorite configuration, but they do a good job explaining why it's the right boat for some people: http://www.boattest.com/boats/boat_video...

Recently picked up a rod and reel - Abu Garcia Revo S and St. Croix Avid

A little bit of searching and I found that the Shimano Stradic is sort of a benchmark spinning reel by which many other reels are judged (at least in lake-style fishing in Minnesota). But, the Ci4 was around $220, and I was hoping to get by for less without sacrificing much in the way of quality. I ...

Shop manual by engine type

Volvo has published a listing of shop manuals by engine type, which at least gives a starting point for ordering one or searching for a PDF version online. The list is posted at: http://www.marinemechanic.com/volvo/volvo/2010/04-2-67%5B1%5Dworkshopmanuals.pdf I was able to find a shop manual for the...
