Re: Cost comparison using Gas Consumption

I got to spend some time on a Tiara 38' last year, and these boats have a lot more in common with modern luxury yachts than the bare-bones dedicated fishing center consoles of years past.

Re: Audio Suggestions

I've had no issues with their speakers, but their head unit was a no-go for me. The thread I linked goes over it in detail, but I got a couple defective units in a row, only to find out it couldn't play much for digital media (limited to 999 files for an external drive) and I returned it for a Fusio...

Re: Cost comparison using Gas Consumption

I'd find similarly-equipped boats on review sites like boattest.com and look at their fuel usage charts if you can't find direct reviews of the boats you're interested in. Manufacturers don't usually provide fuel efficiency charts, but better review sites sometimes do. John edit: Boattest is subscri...

Re: Audio Suggestions

Regarding speakers, I'd put JL Audio and Wet Sounds solidly above Rockford Fosgate (I wouldn't spend the kind of money you're looking at and put Rockford Fosgate speakers in a boat). There are some smaller brands like Roswell Marine that may be another step up yet in quality (Cobalt used them as a s...

Bennett and Lenco are the two big brands - I don't think you'd go wrong with either of them.

Re: Jacking up 2005 272 on trailer?

One other thing that may help if you do decide to brace it temporarily lifted is to support it where there's a stringer in the boat rather than between stringers. You might have to stick your head in the ski locker or engine compartment to see how your boat is built. Screenshot_20190703-191218_Photo...

Re: R3 - engine size

I'm also in the camp that believes it should be just fine. When I drove a few boats in that range, having a duo prop outdrive seemed to make a bigger difference than 20-30 horsepower.

Re: New Batteries

Is that the new 6.2L? The specification will be in the Volvo Penta engine manual, near the back in a table of specifications. For example, page 157 of this document for the V8-380CE-A shows 650CCA with a suggested 135 minute reserve capacity:

Re: New Batteries

Then I'll probably try to put the exact battery Cobalt put in when it was new when it comes time to change. The local Cobalt dealer here mentioned that Cobalt themselves don't put batteries in the boat - it's part of the dealer prep before delivery, so the battery brand may be different for each Co...

Re: New Batteries

You need to look at your owners manual to see what the Marine Cold Cranking Amp spec is for your engine. For my Mercruiser, the spec is minimum 800MCCA. The Interstate size 27 deep cycle has only 750. The reason is that some batteries have too much voltage drop while cranking to reliably operate fu...

Re: Which 220S?

Sometimes they'll change the cam and/or the throttle body, but with Volvo Penta in particular it's often just a different engine tune.

Re: New Batteries

Which Interstate batteries where you talking about 27DC Marine Battery or the 24DC Marine Battery Thanks. They're the same construction and materials inside, only the group 27 battery is a bit wider than the group 24 battery so delivers a few more amps. Group 27 batteries will usually fit in the sa...

Re: New to me 2020 R5

Spoke to Garmin...they don't make an adapter to go from the hole for the 7607xsv to a current model. I will 3D print my own adapter once the time comes. I also have a friend with a CNC milling machine that will make me one based on my 3d printed design Makes sense. When I put a new radio and remote...

Re: New to me 2020 R5

Not sure which model I have and I’m not near the boat to poke around. Here’s a pic of the 2… Pretty sure yours is the next model up but I believe it is also discontinued since I was looking for one to buy. It would have been close enough to fit my boat with a little bit of filing plastic! Looked ba...

Re: New Batteries

I figured Duracell car and boat batteries were just a money grab to trade on the good name of their AA, 9V, etc. consumer batteries, but their lead acid batteries are pretty consistently rated highly by places like Consumer Reports that do actual testing.
