26SD review on boattest.com

Boattest.com has posted a review of the 26SD, but unusually doesn't include test results even for those registered/logged in. the whole deck boat thing isn't my favorite configuration, but they do a good job explaining why it's the right boat for some people: http://www.boattest.com/boats/boat_video...

Recently picked up a rod and reel - Abu Garcia Revo S and St. Croix Avid

A little bit of searching and I found that the Shimano Stradic is sort of a benchmark spinning reel by which many other reels are judged (at least in lake-style fishing in Minnesota). But, the Ci4 was around $220, and I was hoping to get by for less without sacrificing much in the way of quality. I ...

Shop manual by engine type

Volvo has published a listing of shop manuals by engine type, which at least gives a starting point for ordering one or searching for a PDF version online. The list is posted at: http://www.marinemechanic.com/volvo/volvo/2010/04-2-67%5B1%5Dworkshopmanuals.pdf I was able to find a shop manual for the...

I'm a recent Cobalt 210 purchaser (orderer), and was hoping to find an active online community of Cobalt boat owners online. As I couldn't find such a cobalt boat forum, I thought I'd try to start one. Photos of the boat coming, hopefully not too long after the snow starts to melt...

Garmin new Echomap 70 models

Looks like Cobalt just came out with a few new Ehcomap chartplotter/fish finder combos, including the 73 and 74 down view and side view models. The older Echomap 70 still appears to be the better value, as it features a touchscreen, more expandability, and a few more features for a similar price. No...

Airhead Mega Ruckus from Walmart

Picked up an Airhead Mega Ruckus from Walmart last summer for kids to tube behind the boat, and am generally pretty happy with the purchase. Paid $99, and like the 70" size for two riders or an adult relative to some of the smaller tubes offered. Seemed very durable, and had no trouble inflatin...

Water skis

Looked at a handful of reviews and stopped by a few shops to pick up water skis last summer, and decided on the HO Burner Pro 67. Ended up getting a bit of a discount on a prior year model with black and white graphics rather than the current black and yellow, and am pretty pleased overall. I wanted...

Anchor line

Did some research regarding what best to use as an anchor line, and found a few things: Samson and New England ropes are both top quality, but Samson is somewhat less expensive. Nylon rope is generally preferred for anchoring and docking, as it has more stretch than most other lines and can cushion ...

Bumpers

Ended up picking up some Polyform F-1 bumpers based on their reputation and a comparison with the Taylor ones at a local shop. Quality was great, and they look pretty sharp. Pretty pleased overall, but I'd recommend picking up the inflator gadget for a few dollars more, as it took a bit of work to i...

Basic safety equipment

Made a list of basic safety equipment (not all-inclusive) to ensure a new boat is properly equipped recently, based on a 21-foot inland lake boat. The list of recommended items, compiled from multiple sources, included: Required: A set of type I, II, or III life jackets for each person on board, plu...

Erickson marine - Twin Cities, MN

Just worked with Jon Erickson here to order a new Cobalt 210. Pretty happy with the experience, which I expected to be a lot more like buying a car. Good service, good price - I'll have to report back on the boat in April or thereabouts : )
