Re: Stereo head unit upgrade

So I ended up getting the non CD Sony. I don't need the CD player and like the fact it would work with the present remote. I got it installed and everything worked great. Well, until I tried to use the remote volume up. It cause the volume to go down :x . All the other buttons worked, but no volume up. Called Sony and they said it was the remote. Instead of trying to find a remote I returned the head unit, Back to square one.

Also has RF speakers. Don't know how different your layout would be but it's a great sounding unit. Haven't paired up my iPhone yet but did play an MP3 player through it. If you need info or pictures, let me know. You may be able to go to Cobalt brochures & zoom in.

Do you know how far the faceplate extends above and below the opening it is mounted in ?

B mine does the same thing! Volume down instead of up regardless of which button you push. I had a stereo shop do the installation and they couldn't figure it out either.

I bluetooth my phone, turn the head unit up, and use the phone volume when at the helm. We also carry the remote that came with the unit out to the swimdeck when it's just my wife and I, but I don't expect that to last long, even though we're real careful. I can always order another one if it takes a swim!

Bfun, don't know if I'll be much help. I'm 3 hours away from boat so I don't know the dimensions of the face plate. I do have the instruction booklet with me. It says the opening to mount the unit should be 7" x 2.1" but can't measure that either. Here are 2 pictures that may help.

If someone else has that same unit and has quick access to their boat, maybe they could measure the faceplate dimensions for you. Unfortunately, don't know when I will be back to my boat.

Alaska,
Thank you for the info.
From what I have found I think the faceplate is 3x8. But the measurement I'm worried about is from the bottom of the 7x2 opening to the bottom edge of the faceplate. If it's more than 3/4 of a inch it will not fit. Im guessing it's right at 3/4. Maybe I can find one local to try.

Odd I've never had a remote work backwards. Just some functions didn't work.

Just thought I would update.
I ended up going with a clarion 505 knowing it would fit. I also liked that they had a simple rf wireless remote. Installed and works great. Stage 2 will be wet sounds 6 channel amp and run new speaker wire.

Great read👍🏻👍🏻

We have the premium sound system installed in the 263 but will be upgrading the head unit down the road. A pic of the current unit.

Don't wait spend the $125 now and be happy. That unit doesn't have Bluetooth. Best upgrade you can do yet.
