It seems to me that in 2016 trying several props and hoping your local marina will work with you is a subpar system.

My local Cobalt dealer/marina are amazing - I think it has a lot to do with local clientele understanding what they're paying for and the marina understanding exceptional service is paramount.

That being said it seems logical that 2-3 prop setups for each boat/engine configuration should be pretty standard by a knowledgable dealer... Amiright?

Sorry that should have been a 19 pitch stainless not a 29. Crap that would be funny watching you try to spin that.lol sorry. I think
b blades have a prop program you could check out.
Yes the dealer should know but we try so many different props ourselves it did help to hear what we are really having good luck with. Last year I brought a rev 4 to the prop repair shop and he is like wow I don't see this prop very often. I'll tell you the merc guys on another forum swear by it and so do I. Every boat and every prop is do so different even if they are the same make and model and pitch. No two are the same.

Welp, took a nice chunk out of the prop (pulling onto the trailer i think) - so looks like I'm getting that new prop sooner than I thought!

Noticed going through my checklist launching on Memorial Day. She still drove fine but now I have an excuse!

4 or 5 blade? pitch for 5.0 GL?

Love to hear all suggestions.

Liquid, I've had good luck with Prop MD in Eden Prairie, MN, but I know there are many other places that do good work fixing dinged up props as well. They welded some metal on and reshaped my stainless steel Volvo duo props looking like new for about $200, instead of buying a new pair for $1200-1600.

I wish I knew Volvo props better. I loved the high five. Small prop held the water great, great hole shot and could spin some rpms with it. I don't know if you could spin a rev 4 those are crazy good props all around. I am sure you can buy a new aluminum or a great shape used one for right around a$100 so not sure I would waste my time fixing that one. I bought common props I knew I could resell if I didn't like it. That's how I found the ones I looked. 19-21 pitch it's a easy resell so just have to find one at a good price. I used eBay and cl mostly
I just posted my f8 dp on eBay for $500 so I could move up to Hill Marine 4 blades.

Here's my chunk. Still runs fine for my purposes but I'm leaving good work in the locker room...

I wouldn't run that too much. Throws everything off balance. There's got to be numbers on it somewhere that says what pitch and diameter it is.

I got this trip this week! Think I can do damage to the drive or the shaft with a little chunk like this? I don't feel any weird vibration but i certainly don't want to do unnecessary damage.

I personally wouldn't. When do you leave. It's Wednesday you could get a prop shipped to you by Friday? By a spare aluminum for a $100 and put it on till you get a stainless. To bad your not from around here. Props are within a 30 minute drive. Look on cl. Someone will have one. I wish I had a crystal ball to answer that question but I don't just giving you my opinion. Did you or can you pull it off quick and see what pitch it is? If your happy with it you can try the same pitch in a stainless and you should gain a better hole shot and some speed. That's if you stay with a three blade. Yes every prop is different though. Four blade I would prob drop a pitch.

It's a 14 1/2 x 21. My dealer has one in stock (aluminum). $200. RH

Hate this. Leave Saturday morning. Either get the one from the dealer and overpay or search around for one for cheaper.

My whole point was to find a SS that will improve the hole shot and that I had time to do the research. Now i have to make a decision ASAP and all options are annoying.

Yes that's a bit high. I'll check down here maybe can do some 2 day shipping and be cheaper? Do you have a prop shop around. They Normally have a good selection of new and used. Sorry do youth have the SX drive?
I just searched some cl and in Pittsburgh there is a prop and philly has a new 4 blade aluminum 19 for cheap. Worth a try even. Good spare even. He said he will ship anywhere in the usa.

There are a plenty of marinas and repair shops and a west marine. I just don't know the inventory or who carries what or even exactly what i want...

I was going to get a 4 blade SS - but that was based on figuring out what pitch I wanted to get to and doing what I do - ridiculous research. I wanted to have a back up prop in case I do something to the new one - but I didn't want to buy a new version of the prop I already have and have that end up being the back up prop. That's stupid, and probably what I have to do at this point. If i have to pay 200 for a prop that I don't need to think about until next spring than so be it. Just wish I knew exactly the prop I wanted now.

Thinking of moving down from a 21 to a 19 when i switch to the 4 banger but i haven't tested at WOT to have enough empirical knowledge.

I'm going to ask my dealer tomorrow for either a loaner for the week or a demo and see what they have laying around. They aim to please so it shouldn't an issue and buy some time to do research.

yes it's an SX RH

Look at my thread above yours again I added to it.. Yes I think 19 four blade will work. The issue is the diameter and cupping changes the rpms so much. Yea a test prop would be great for you. I wish there were others here that had the same set up as you but we know that's not the case.
The ss is a 19 three blade and a bit higher than I first thought.

I'm sorry it didn't pop up there was a new posting. Just search Pittsburgh craigslist for Volvo prop it will pop up.
Yea the price is right even if it didn't work perfect but it should be a bit better than what you have and a good spare.
