Re: What options do you wish you had specified...

Post by Tuscany »

I have most fun and interior fluff options ordered, except for those that just don't seem practical for a bowrider.
But I was wondering this, I had a transom tilt on my chaparral and never used it.

My biggest reason for not speccing it? I figured one person in control of the outdrive position made for less chances of a swimming accident. And, I always raise the outdrive before pulling out of the water, and I shut the batts off before jumping down for the tow home, so no use there.
What do you guys use it for that I'm missing?
I still have a few day to add options before the boat is locked for build.
Thanks.

I never shut my batteries off. I let my drive down at the ramp to get the water out. I also drop the drive at home if it's going to be sitting for a. Week or more. Changing props. Running on time hose. Cleaning and so on. I would never own one again without it. I just can't believe they put it on the starboard side.

The remote tilt switch is a convenience item for sure. I use mine whenever I need to adjust tilt when the boat is on the trailer. If not, it would be easy to put the drive down too far (into the ground). If I recall it was one of the least expensive options... $150ish.

Hmm. Servicing..
Yeah 2b, it's basically a hundred dollar item. I see it as added wiring and switching that I don't use, but.. if it keeps dirty service tech shoes out of the cockpit while servicing, then it does have a place.

Hey Tuscany! I'm looking forward to seeing your R7 - will be stunning (and well optioned). I see you are a lake person - what boat are you coming from? It seems that once someone gets a Cobalt they stay with the brand.
I spec'd a R30 the way I would want it... close to $300K. Ouch! Makes my little 232 seem like the bargain of the century. :).

My first and only boat was a 2002 Chaparral 233 Sunesta.
I wasn't interested in taking the next step due of the demands of my business, so we enjoyed that boat up until last fall.
Now, I have the time, and I made three unexpected moves that led to the new boat.
One was asking my Chaparral/Cobalt dealer if he had a line on something larger.
Second was taking my wife to see an R5.
Third was stepping in an R7.

When we visited the Toronto boat show this year, it took all of 5 minutes. My wife and son wouldn't consider another brand. The Cobalt was breathtaking. I was considering a 27' Formula, but even that boat didn't impress when compared to the Cobalt.
