We have recently updated the forum software to PHPBB 3.1.8, which addresses several bugs identified since the last forum update.

Are you able to comment on the software upgrade planned for 2018 and how it may positively or (negatively) affect the CobaltChat site? (Usability, options, funding, etc.)
....Or are there still too many unknowns ?
And as always, thank you for your time and efforts in the admin/ host management department.

Aslan, I think we’re sticking with Phpbb for now, which has a pretty big open source community. I’ll play it somewhat by ear, but it probably won’t become one of those forums where the features overshadow the people and content. In the first three years the site had made enough to pay for about an hour of my time at work (or for the web hosting), so cost is always relevant too.
