Re: 240 BR Rebuild

I have put 57 hours on since her maiden voyage and only have a couple of issues. I read somewhere once that the hour meter will run when the accessory switch is on for the stereo, but haven't looked close enough to see if this is true or not. I know we've burned thru several tanks of fuel so the hours may be actual, but 57 seems like a lot and we're only halfway through the season. Does anyone know anything about that?

Everything have been awesome, but the main thing I'm dealing with is the slow speed. Wot and trimmed out she only goes 39, but I suspect it might be the Chinese knockoff fuel pump I bought off of Ebay and installed awhile back. Sometimes at certain low RPM the high pressure pump will squeal unless I bump the throttle one way or the other, which makes me think at WOT it's not getting enough fuel. I've also noticed it runs faster and stronger in the morning when everything is cooler, and I again I read somewhere about the high pressure pump getting hot and vaporizing the fuel, thus a water cooling line from the manifold.

At any rate, you get what you pay for, so a new OEM pump is on its way, along with a new power steering pump. The seal on it leaks, and the bearings make a little noise sometimes. I've managed to get everything perfect on this boat and in "like new" condition, so both pumps will be replaced this week.

I'll post if there is a noticeable change in top speed and power. It's easy to look hard at a knockoff pump when they are $600 cheaper, and these Volvo Penta pumps don't have a very good reputation!

The last thing I want to report is the aftermarket sun shade we stumbled across. We had the 9 month old grandbaby for a week, and was worried about shade. We bought one of those triangle patio sunscreens with metal rings sewn into the apex of each corner. We put it over the bimini and hook the ring in the midships cleats, then pull it back and hook it into the ski ring. It's a perfect fit! I'll try to get a picture of it, but for anyone needing extra shade and easy access this thing works!

Very cool. From what I know the clock does not run in acc position.

My clock does run in the acc. Position. I plan on changing it that when I rewire the batteries.

I guess turn it on for a few tenths and see what it does. I don't run mine for hours in acc.

Thanks B. I was thinking my clock must be running to get as many hours on as it shows.

I have always been an AM radio type of guy, and never saw much value in a nice stereo. Now that I do I play a lot of Pandora. We usually anchor against a cliff and play movie scores, sometimes for 2 or 3 hours while we're floating or just relaxing, so that must be where my hours are coming from.

I have always been a blues or classic rock type of guy, but these movie soundtracks are really cool! If you're into that kind of music I recommend Braveheart (film score). When Last of the Mohegans, Batman Begins, or Transformers is echoing off the cliffs, it's pretty freakin awesome!

Ytmsn,

Just read thru this entire thread. That is one amazing transformation on your 240. WOW :o :o :o

Beautiful job my friend. You certainly have a gift for patience, vision, and ability.

Where did you purchase the Cobalt swim platform "teak" looking mat? Expensive?

Btw, Table Rockin's boat on that lift was also gorgeous. Kudo's to both of you for restoring/keeping your Cobalt't in extraordinary condition.

It is actually stunning, Ytmsn! Surprised there are no copyright issues with another company doing that. I know that is a big deal for aftermarket folks who sell even those tiny key fobs...the manufacturer's come after them. Most of those come from China to get around that sort of thing.

This mat looks made in the USA though. Again, just gorgeous. May be the best swim platform I have seen to date.

Thanks Thunder! You should do a build thread on yours too, I'd like to see it. And yeah, it finally clicked with Liquid!
