Adding Sonar / fish finder to Garmin 742 dual screen

Post by Tgoertz »

Looking to add a sonar to the garmin 742 on my 25sc. Maps are great but would like actual depth reading and fish finder. Anyone add one and/or have recommendations?

From my understanding you could just add a transducer and it should work as an NMEA2000 device

I was incorrect on this. I just installed a new garmin on mine and got to learn all about it. Hopefully you found your answer... last year.

Here's what I got from Garmin. Works great on my 2021 R5.

You will need to get a Sonar Module, and an 8-12 pin adapter to plug into this.

If you don't- you will also want two network cables to connect your units to this device.

I will attach all the links below- feel free to take the part numbers and shop around online for the best price.

8-Pin Transducer to 12-Pin Sounder Adapter Cable

Garmin Marine Network Cables (you will want to choose what length you are needing)
