Adding rope to my stock windlass anchor chain

Post by lespaulrob »

Hi all,

I am moving to a much deeper lake and will almost certainly have to add some more length to my anchor chain. I was thinking about going with something like an attached rope or something so minimize the weight. Any idea how much length of chain they ship with the R6 Surfs with the added windlass? I was thinking I'd need at least 50-100' more than what I have so that I can have enough to safely anchor at the new lake.

Thoughts?

Isn't it now all chain? If so, I don't think you can add rope - it uses the links to bring in the chain so rope wouldn't work.

I have an R5 with the windlass and it came with 100ft of chain. Be careful adding rope to the end of the chain. Even a factory splice will tend to get chewed up in the gypsy over time.

Rope/chain type and dimensions are specified by the windlass manufacturer. Find the make and model. The specs should be at their website.

I have an integrated chain/rope on my windlass, and it works perfectly.
