Trim fluid reservoir

Post by Memphis »

The trim on my 2010 cobalt 242 with Volvo seems sluggish and erratic and will not go all the way up. Where is the reservoir for the trim fluid and what type does it call for?

It’s mounted in the transom assembly on the outside of the boat to the right of the drive. It can use power steering fluid (clear) or Dextron transmission fluid (pink). Stick with what is already in it.

So glad you found us Memphis.

Yes the reservoir is located on the starboard side in the transom. It most likely has a yellow cap. Fill with power steering fluid.

Any pics?

And welcome aboard mate.

If your's is not trimming up all the way, it is likely low on fluid. Top it off with the drive down, then with the cap off run the drive up/down 8-10 times, this will bleed any air out of the system. I was having a similar issue with my drive not staying trimmed up. The cap is black, on the left side of reservoir, it's a bit of a PIA to get it off and fill. The next question might be why is it low. Check around your system to see if it is leaking, there was a problem on some of these - they were leaking through a casting plug in the reservoir.
