263 Boat Fire !!

Post by Red Stripe »

Last weekend we had an issue while underway. All 8 people on board are safe and no injuries. A friend in a different boat came to our assistance. I believe the fire was electrical, the adjuster just finished up and now I can tear into it to see if I can narrow down the cause. I will testify that the fire suppression system in the engine bay (that is where the fire started) bought us a lot of time to get off the boat.

I don't need to tell you that the Red Stripe is a total loss. I could use some advice on a value for some of the equipment.

2001 Heritage trailer (2000 miles on new tires)
Bimini top (was not on the boat)
Full winter cover with cut out for arch
Outdrive appears to be ok but prop is bent (Volvo Penta DP)

Any input will be helpful!

Dang!! Glad to hear everyone is safe. Not sure on the values, keep the trailer in case you find another 263 or do you have something else in mind?

Oh wow RedStripe...that just breaks my heart. So glad to hear everyone was ok.

Please keep us updated on the cause once you do some digging.

I could have used that arch cutout cover earlier. Would have paid $7-800 for it.

Bimini is probably worth $200 to $500. The color match may be the issue for other buyers.

WOW! I have the identical boat. Boat fires are extremely scary. I had a small fire on my fishing boat this summer. It was a 12 volt plug in receptacle that was the cause. I plugged a spot light in and the positive and negative wires ignited. Thank go I was standing there and ripped the wires out by hand. That hurt! I'm so happy no one was hurt on your boat. Sorry for your loss

Oh my... That's terrible to see, but glad everyone got off without any issues! You should have no problem selling that trailer. There is always a 262 / 263 owner looking for one. Is your cover for the Fiberglass Arch or Stainless?

Glad everyone is OK.

I would think the trailer would be in the 5-7K range, or half the cost of a new one.

I've been looking for a year and almost every Cobalt trailer I've found that has been sold us under $5K in very good to excellent condition. Biggest problem selling them is the color and the welded bunks making them mostly (if not only) suitable for the same model and same color (depending on buyer's desire to match his boat).

I'm looking for a 240 trailer within 500 miles of Lake Lanier, GA (an hour north of Atlanta) if anyone has one they'll give up.

By boat did not have an arch but the winter cover has the cut out for it. I can get pictures tonight of the full cover. I also have the cockpit cover that I had made three years ago.
