263 trim motor

Post by jtrevill »

I'm coming close to finishing my 263 project. Only like 2 years behind schedule, but trying to do stuff right. Sunday I got both of the rebuilt outdrives put back on, and finally started both motors and verified water flow, smooth shifting and no overheating. Super excited! First time in two years I had them both running. Went to trim the drives back up and the port side comes up, but slowly drifts back down overnight. The starboard side just clicks. Verified the motor is not working by applying power and ground to the blue and red wires on the motor and still nothing. I suspect it is bad.

I've looked all over the unit and can't seem to find a part number or manufacturer or anything to lead me in the right direction to replace it. Anyone have any suggestions?

As far as the port side, I opened the little round knob and found oil would come out of the starboard one (assuming that means its full). However, on the port side that slowly falls, there is no visible oil (but there was a leak in one of the lines, so I replaced the lines on that side when I had the outdrives off. Any clue how to add oil to these things? There is no obvious fill on the top, and this is the only place I can see it opens, but its on the side. Seems like an odd way to fill oil in a tiny opening. Any thoughts on either is appreciated. I may just replace both motors but would hate to waste it if it just needs oil on one side.

Sorry - probably should have put more details about what it is. 1989 263 Condurre. Has the dual 350 Volvo Penta with DP-A outdrives.
