Jacking up 2005 272 on trailer?

Post by DFWdude »

I would like to use a floor jack on the centerline of my boat, a foot or so in from the transom in order to lift the azz end up ~2” so I can stick 2x6s between some of the existing bunks and the hull on both sides. Then do the same up front, obviously from a diff jack point.

Im trying to create about 1.5” of gap so I can apply some gelcoat repair on a small area that the centermost port bunk covers.

Can the keel handle the load of the entire azz end on the floor jack for a short while? Thoughts overall?

Id have the trailer connected to my truck, and chocked.

As a follow up, maybe I could just jack up the front end to create enough gap to access where I need to. But again, can the keel take the load of the jack?

There seems to be little support on the boats I see on the floor at the boat show

Lower the trailer as far as you can. Put jacks under the stern on both sides. Lift the front of the trailer until your area is exposed. Reverse the process for accessing the bow.

Or: re-trailer slightly to port or starboard -- enough to expose the two areas. Wait for gelcoat to dry. Re-trailer again.

One other thing that may help if you do decide to brace it temporarily lifted is to support it where there's a stringer in the boat rather than between stringers. You might have to stick your head in the ski locker or engine compartment to see how your boat is built.

Got this taken care of. Lifted the tongue as high as it would go, braced the keel, then let it down. Created enough gap where I needed it.
Thanks y’all
