R5 Mod GPSMAP 943

Post by fourmasons »

Swapped out the original GPSMAP 740 for a new GPSMAP 943 in our 2014 R5.
I did the swap out and my Dremel tool sure came in handy.
The NEMA 2000 was plug-n-play, but the power cord is different and needed to be changed. Not too difficult.
The 943 is a vast improvement over the 740 in features and usability. It’s much larger and more readable, especially on a sunny day and at night.
Really updates the helm of the R5. Looks great and works well with the standard gauge package.
Cobalt is installing Dual GPSMAP 943s. I just saw them on a brand new R8 last week and they are the standard screens on the new R26.
Of course, most will probably option the Dual 12” GPSMAP 1243s on the R26.
