Trading boats

Post by tsouthard91 »

Hey Guys,

I'm in the process of selling my '99 232 and wanted to see what everyone thought about my next proposed boat.

I am looking at something in similar size but newer. I love the ride/speed combination of the 232 and don't want to sacrifice that.

I also want a big block. My current one has the 7.4MPI and will top out just shy of 60 with 3 people and 1/2 tank of gas.

I've been looking at the '04-'08 220, 226 and 07-08 222.

Can ones who own these models talk about the ride quality, power plants you have and any other features you like/dont like?

My fear is that I will be compromising too much with my new budget. Trying to stay under 35K.

Thanks in advance!

We own a 2007 222 /w a 6.2 Merc. Ride quality is awesome, tons of storage options and we really like the side pass through. They are difficult to find /w the 496, most come /w the 5.7 or the 350mag. With the 6.2 we top out around 52 or 53 /w a full tank of gas and just Katie and I on the boat.

Welcome and good luck /w the search - this forum is great at spending others money. Based on our purchase price I would think 35k is reasonable for what you want. If you have any other questions on the 222 let us know.

This has been for sale for awhile...I am guessing you could make a low ball offer. I am not sure what is wrong /w it that would cause it to sit so long. It's about 3 hours from us I want someone to go take a look just so we can figure out its story: https://www.boattrader.com/listing/2007 ... 103185864/

I have a 226 with a BP 8.1 gi duoprop. At sea level, it's a 63mph boat. At 2500 feet it's a 59mph boat. I can't compare it to the other hills, but I have been told the 226/246/etc series are some of their faster hulls.

I love the boat. When I test drove it we were in some good chop. Rose best when you got some speed and just road on top.

I wish it had a merc because I would live to do some mods to the engine to get a few more hp.

I would try to find the latest model 226 with a merc 496 I could.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Appreciate the link to that boat. Let me see what the Mrs. thinks 😁

As for you BBP, how do you like the 220? That’s on my list to look at as well

Ok ive owned the 222 and about 6 220's and my buddy had a 226.

If you want to go fast and like the side entrance go bb 226.
The 226 is less expensive and doesn't hold the value like a 220 or 222. It's the old style hull. The 226 does not ride as nice as the 220 or 222.
The 222 rides better than the 220. To me it's boring. The 220 feels more sporty and to me handles better.
The 220 freeboard is than the 222.
I like the center walk through. I like the weight spread equally across the rear seat
I think the 220 is the perfect boat for us. The 220 gets on plane a bit quicker than the 222 with each having a 5.7.
I think the 220 rides very smooth. My wife thought the 222 was smoother though. But I rather drive the 220.
The 222 is basically the 232.
I got mine up to 60 last October. It runs 57 no issues with what ever load it has. It hits a wall there. It's just not a fast hull. I'm playing with props but I don't have a real handle on them yet. I will when conditions are right.

Any other questions ask away.

Tsouth,

I have a 226 as well- very happy with it after 3 years of Lake Tahoe use. Rides well and I like the side walk through. Handles the afternoon chop like a champ- 1' to 2' waves, keep it on top rather than fighting it, as mentioned above. The 5.7GXI pushes her to about 48-49mph at 6200' with F-4'S with good hole shot. Should do about 56 with F-6's at sea level from reviews I've read.
I like the 220 as well and steered one of my buddies to a 2003, who is very happy with his, Merc 6.2 Bravo 3. All great boats- good luck!

Awesome!

Thanks guys! This helps so much y'all have no idea.

If we are talking aesthetics, I think the 07-08 222 is the best looking. Purely opinion. Not as budget friendly though haha.

I'm fearful that the layout of the 226 will feel small coming from the '99 232. Maybe I am off here.

A buddy of mine has a '08 200, and that thing rides just as good as my 232. Its crazy. Weighs the same too.

No doubt that the 220 is a solid boat, but dang they're hard to find with the big block!!

Some say the 190 is the greatest, fastest & most aesthetically perfect hull ever created.

Welcome and good luck with your search.

...low hours and new canvas a bonus. I mean he could even tow it with a smaller SUV like, idk... an Acadia or Traverse.

It would be perfect for a small family, maybe even a wife and husband w/o kids. Really about the best boat you can buy.
