Re: Changing docking light bulbs

You will like going to LED bulbs. Before, my lights were worthless, and then I changed to something similar to what you're installing Eric. I went with both flood as I wanted to light the water up around me in case there was anything floating. When our lake floods we get logs and other nasties to watch for. But I can be a hundred yards from the bank and they will light it up!
And coming into the dock at night? Fahgetaboutit

This picture was taken from my back yard right after I installed them. When the boat is on the water its lower in the back so they shine out farther

Very Nice!
How was the electrical hook up?
Did you but splice this light to the power wires, or solder the connection (if there was one) from the original light on to this light?

I soldered but really you need to PM Thunder for instructions on the install. It took him like 10 minutes each side that took me about a week..

Seriously, wiring and electrical is something I totally suck at. That's why I usually have the pros do it! It's a wonder I didn't blow something up or burn my boat down.

Thanks Eric! Nice helpful shots! I haven’t blown a bulb yet but hey maybe today. Only thing about LEDs dealer mentioned to me was a lot more light reflecting off fog if low visibility the “regular” bulbs would be better but most will be going the LED route and I prob will when the day comes. They aren’t headlights after all.

Exactly! ... Not Headlights ... Although there are several folks here at LOTO that forget this :-)

One thing I forgot to mention ...
They must have used some glue instead of sealant to seal the housing to the hull.

Even after pulling all the screws out and gently priyin with plastic pry bars, they weren't moving!

I wound up going in through the windless opening up top and "one handing" each of them.

I spent about 30 minutes trying to get the electrical connectors lined up and plugged back in.

Other than that, not a bad job.

The best part is really less amperage draw.

Actually, spot (7 degree spread) on the starboard and flood on the port (30 degree spread) ... But honestly I cannot tell the difference.
I assume it's because they are tucked back up in the "tube".
