Shifter

Post by dreamline »

I would like to replace the shifter on our 246 8.2 with a standard tried and true sidemount Morse shifter. Ours is anything but smooth and positive and occasionally it doesn't shift into neutral smoothly and is really dangerous. I never had an issue with the Morse sidemounts on our previous 5 or 6 boats. Is ther any electronic issue such as an engine cutout for shifting? Thanks

Nope, there shouldn't be any such issues. You might be able to avoid buying a new shifter by identifying the current shifter and making sure that the cables were adjusted within spec before buying an aftermarket one, though. Installing a new one will include checking and adjusting the cables, so if you really want a new one anyway it may be a good time to upgrade.
