2003 262 - using open auxiliary switches
Hello
I've been looking for information on this and have even emailed Patrick at Cobalt a couple times with no response.
I would like to use one of the un-used auxiliary switches on the dash of my 2003 262. I'm looking to find out how to hook up a wire to the switch and what their capacity is. My intent is to wire an underwater light to the switch. I'm assuming I would run the power wire to the dash but how/where do I connect it? Is this even an option or should I just add a remote switch under one of my rear seats?
Thanks

Call 'em.

I've had success getting someone knowledgeable on the phone or phonecall back in short order.
Good luck!

Re: 2003 262 - using open auxiliary switches
I realize I'm reviving an old thread, but does anyone have experience tapping into the aux switches. I have two unused on mine, but they both appear wired, beyond just the power for the switch indicator LED. I'm wondering if there is a common spot Cobalt runs the wires to, where we can tap in at a location not directly at the switch...possibly a relay bank they hide somewhere or something. Just like the populated switches, each aux switch has a pair of same colored wires running from it into the main harness with all the rest.

Re: 2003 262 - using open auxiliary switches
Funny you ask. I was going to wire my speaker leds to it but I didn't for the same reason. I know cobalt prewired one of my switches for Captains Call the bottom switch in the right side of the steering wheel. The wires are at the switch and at the engine. The other switch is left open but yes they have wires going to it for no reason I cant tell. Not sure why they didn't leave it open. Bfun what do you know about this. This is your hood.. They have a ground bar behind my helm . I didn't see a b+ bar though.

I've been wondering the same thing. My accessory switch on the right is wired, but as far as I can tell it doesn't control anything. The LED indicator light also does not illuminate. I was thinking the wires run to a fuse block nothing is hooked to them (no fuse / no power). Haven't had time to track them down yet.

I think the led should light up though. It's amazing how they loop the hot wire-red one to each other in a chain.

Maybe, I had one LED go bad. Maybe another one was burned out. I'll get my volt meter and check when I get time.

I really haven't spent any time with those LED's.Big Block Power wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2017 6:17 pm Bfun what do you know about this. This is your hood..
I got 4 more days to work this month. After that I should have some time to explore my hood.

Re: 2003 262 - using open auxiliary switches
I too appear to have a bad LED on one of my aux switches. On the one that works, the delivery captain told me that was for the GPS antenna. So like an idiot I had been turning it on until I decided to try it without it, and the GPS still worked. But, since that LED worked and the other didn't, I had believed him. The one LED hasn't worked since the minute I got the boat, which irks me now that I have looked at the switched and see that it should be working.

Re: 2003 262 - using open auxiliary switches
There are definitely a lot of what appear to be odd wiring practices. Just strange how they do a lot of it. Probably the accepted way of marine wiring, but different than my initial thoughts on how I would do a lot of it.Big Block Power wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2017 8:50 pm I think the led should light up though. Re: 2003 262 - using open auxiliary switches
100% correct. Too me if a switch is left unused it should have a power out terminal open and these have wires going to all terminals and operate nothing? Maybe your supposed to piggy back the led lead?

Re: 2003 262 - using fopen auxiliary switches
The LEDs are piggy backed to the switch with their own spade connector. The grounds to the LEDs are all hooked to the same connection. At least on my 2011 242. I just replaced one last week.
