Exhaust Tube Leak

Post by PeteD7 »

My 2001 226 with Mercruiser 350 MAG has a small amount of water leaking out of the 2 exhaust tubes/ elbows. I tried tightening the clamps because they were loose but they are still leaking. Has anyone had this problem before? Could it harm the motor? I realized it at the end of a long day on the lake and tubing. Is it just a matter of replacing the tubes/ elbows? Thank you!

Easy job to replace them, I did it in the water at my slip on my last boat. Don’t run with them leaking. When you pull them off you’ll see they are likely swelled up and burst. If both are leaking it could be sigh of a previous overheat.

Ok, got one side off. Looks like it might take some time to get new ones. It doesn’t look like these are torn, maybe just adhesive dried up? Do you think it would be all right to apply new adhesive and see if they hold up until the new ones arrive?
