Sailing.....yeah, it's boring

Post by sailor55330 »

You guys might have guessed, I'm a sailor at heart. For those of you who think sailing doesn't have tech or is boring.... (although I admit, still prefer the traditional old school America's cup boats).

Just crazy. Hydrosail boats. Or what ever you want to call it. No more old fashioned sail boat.

Back when I was racing Hobie Cats, there was a racing book out that described spinnakers as a sail that occupies your time while going slow.

Man I miss Hobies. Good description of a spinnaker but a necessary sail in light air going down wind for any distance

I used to race Nacra 5.2’s back in my high school and college days and it was a lot of fun. A few times each summer we used to waterski behind our 5.2 just to show that would could.

Sailor, I'm sure you saw this from the race on Sunday but I thought I would post it for others based upon the title of this thread :D . Watch it all the way through.

I still miss the old races with plain mono-hulls. Dennis Conner days. Was the best skipper back then and not the highest tech boat.

I watched a movie on Amazon prime about an American who got into these races. Took him like 135 days to complete the race. The winner now completes it on 85 days...maybe faster this year. It is wild

Agreed. My father has a 1923 Star that he’s restoring for the 3rd time. That Conner race was epic.

I grew up sailing...sunfish, O'Day Javellin, custom wooden cat boats at the summer camp I went to (AFA), then bought and raced a Hobie 18 for 4 years...what a freaking blast. I miss that boat, crazy fast.
