Next, and even more critical, without the correct speced rear end, an overloaded differential may not be able to handle the load and heat will build, and fail.
The other is brakes. Smaller trucks have smaller brakes which isn’t ideal when faced with an emergency stop.
Short tows aren’t as big of a deal, but on a long tow, you better have the right equipment.
Hey T . Great to hear from you buddy. How’s the meat biz?

Re: Let's see your Tow rigs with your boat!
We picked up a new Silverado ZR2 for our tow truck. It replaced a 2021 Silverado Trail Boss that we sold to our son after his got totaled. (No sales tax if transferred to a family member).
The engine and trans are the same in the ZR2 vs. the Trail Boss - 6.2L with the ten-speed.
As a side note, we had to go over to Phoenix to pick it up as there were almost none available in CA and the dealers all wanted over MSRP. I have been wanting to fly on Jet Suite X for a while now and it fit the bill perfectly. JSX is a great cross between flying private and commercial. No TSA, just show up 20 minutes before departure and if everyone is there (we only had 8) and the plane is ready they might leave early. Highly recommend.

The Jungle Jet (Embraer 135) is too small to tow any useful load. Need to upgrade to the 145 at least.

So far it seems pretty good. I think we only have 1500 miles on it so far though. The interior of the 2022 is much improved over the 2021.

I know EV will be the future once electrical infrastructure becomes widespread and battery tech is perfected, but it definitely doesn’t fit my lifestyle currently.
We just placed an order for a new truck and tow vehicle, which looks to be an almost 1 year wait.

Re: Let's see your Tow rigs with your boat!
BM's X5 is big enough to tow my boat, and there's a plug-in hybrid version (45e trim) that has the same 3L inline 6 as their midline 40i model (albeit detuned a bit) plus another 100+ hp from the electric motor. In a nutshell, the first 35 miles or so can be all electric (this is 90+% of my trips), and then you have a "normal" gas engine to keep you going for longer excursions or when towing the boat. I'm considering one if work prospects ever pan out.Tuscany wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 7:33 am I know EV will be the future once electrical infrastructure becomes widespread and battery tech is perfected, but it definitely doesn’t fit my lifestyle currently.

Agree John,
Hybrids make the most sense in a car for the next few years. The best of EV with redundancy of gas.

Next fall delivery.. maybe
Since I store the diesel, I was going to give them my 2020 now. My salesman who is my friend said NOOOOO, not unless you are a gambling man. They're telling me 1 year is the word. Maybe this summer if I'm lucky.
