Where to purchase Cobalt Removable Ski Tow Pylon?

Post by swzimmerman »

I've got a 2017 Cobalt 26SD. I was using the bimini tower tow pylon to pull skiers and tubers, but it snapped off when pulling two tubes. Now that it is replaced, would prefer to purchase a removable ski tow pylon that I can insert in the pole keeper by the swim platform.

Would appreciate guidance on where to purchase the correct pylon. Thanks!

Hey swzimmerman. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

You can purchase the removable tow pylon from your local dealer. Just provide them with the hull ID number. Normally, any Cobalt Dealer can do this for a Cobalt that is less than 7-10 years old.

Any pictures of your 26SD? Btw, the bimini tower pylon is great for pulling a skiier, knee boarder, or wakeboarder. It's not to be used for tubes. primarily from the force generated on the tower if the tube submarines....or worse...a leveraged side load from that.

In any event, hope you can get yours repaired.....and welcome aboard mate!

Welcomed me swizermann and good info A7. While I don’t have a tower if I did I would have used it for my tubes. Thanks for the insight. Always learning something new.

Yeah, I would have likely used it to tow too. Thanks for the info.

Thank you, Bobo87.

I ended up learning from Cobalt that the pylon is standard equipment and under the port side seat.

Glad to see there are a few 26SD's out there. No one around here has hard of, or seen one before.
I'd love to know the production numbers on them. Mine came from Fla as well, so somebody down there is doing a good job getting them out in the water.

It seems that you have this all sorted out now, with minimal damage and hopefully no one hurt. Do you have any photos of the snapped-off pylon? The subject of pulling tubes from the tower comes up from time to time, it would be nice to have a real-life event to point to.

I have a 2004 282BR. Pulling tubes last weekend the pole came out of the dive deck locking hole and bent the bottom of the pole. Haven't figured out whether it was not locked in to place or what. Is it possible to heat/bend the bottom of the pole back to original form without weakening the structure itself? If not, best place to buy one that fits a 2004? Dealer/marina does not have them.

Wow. I’ve never heard of this happening. That pylon is a beast.
Do you have a picture of this?
Do you know a good machine shop operator?

And welcome aboard mate.
