Rant sorry no parts after 7 years is terrible.

Well this 7 year rule just bit me in the butt now.
I have a 2003 8.1gi as we know that engine makes a whistle noise. Well in 2007 I think cobalt made a change to the engine cover too what I believe was designed to deflect the whistle away from the rear seat backrest. Well I found a picture of one off a 2010 and thought cool it's a separate piece I'll just get the front deflector piece and add it to mine. So I sent a picture to the dealer and got sorry I can't buy that your boat is over 7 years old. Wth? I really thought I had a chance at this because I thought it might come from Volvo but I guess not. This is so bad it's just making me so mad..Here is a picture of mine and the one I wanted to get. Here is the email I got back from the dealer today.

Good Morning,
Melissa forwarded me your email about the engine cover. I am sorry I can’t help you with this. Cobalt only goes back seven years on the their parts. Your boat is out of the seven year window. Have a nice day.

All the Best

I feel for you. I wonder if you looked for a part from Volvo instead of from Cobalt if that would help? What is the exact model of the engine (e.g. 8.1GiE-P or whatnot)?

I wonder if something like this would fit - it appears to address the same thing:

Thanks John that's the exact one I found too. Yes it may work.that's my second option. I went through every Volvo 8.1 engine and none of them are like the cobalt one. So cobalt did something so Volvo can't use it.
I contacted another cobalt owner with a R5 I know to see what cover is on his boat.I might have him buy it for me.
This just doesn't make good business sense to me. This is my 4th Cobalt and really one of the best boats I've owned but this is making me so mad.

Bummer I just talked to my buddy with the R5 he has a 6.0.

If you scroll down to the picture on :

http://www.justanswer.com/boat/5acia-ju ... -took.html

it shows how some people have reduced a whistle on the Mercruiser version of the 8.1L by putting a little piece of foam in the idle air controller air channel. I think the Volvo is the same - might be worth a shot.

Thanks John I installed the iac muffler it took care of 80% of it. It's funny merc says that fixes it and everyone says Volvo uses a different throttle body. I matched then up and they are the exact same. I talked to my buddy that owns a marina here and they say too Make the 4 throttle body mounting holes larger than the bolts and make the body flush to the intake. I just didn't want to remove it and do that it just seems a bit crude to me. I might do it at the end of the season?

That's ridiculous. Where's that "Need help finding this part" thread John!

There's now a whole subforum for it - check out the bottom one under "Cobalt Boat Technical and Model-Specific".

.
This rant deserves a bump. The 7 year rule is just too short a time span for “parts no longer offered”.
Ok, I’ve said my peace. :|
