We are looking at buying kayaks for the lake. We are going to buy 4-6, so cost is the main factor. I figure the kids will use them more than anyone. I want sit on top to avoid swamping issues and to make them more usable for jumping in the lake and reboarding in deep water.
Academy has a big sale this week offering a $250 pelican for $200. Can anyone speak to any of the less expensive kayaks? Less expensive would be under $300.
I’m kind of under the gun on this. I promised the kids kayaks last year.

Re: Kayaks
My brother bought the pelican last year. No issues. Good kayak for what it is.

Re: Kayaks
I have 4 of the Walmart Lifetime fishing 10’ers. I love them, easy on and off even in the water. Pole holders built in. Pretty stable in bigger waters. Even does well with my 50lb dog riding with me. I have outlet stores here, but they mostly go for around $259. I take mine on Powell, Flaming Gorge, Utah lake. Big wave lakes and have never even considered being worried. Pretty well built and have been through a couple scout camps with no damage. I’d buy more of the same if I ever needed them.
