Beginner adult wakeboard?

Post by mdadgar »

Anyone got a beginner-intermediate adult wakeboard they like?

I have decided that this year I want to repeatedly bash my face into the water until I learn to wakeboard.

I'm 5' 11", about 205 lbs (gotta do something about that one of these days).

I suck at skateboarding and snowboarding. Which should help.

Thoughts?

I want vids of this. Lol
I have to look I think we got 2 142cm ones. Both from hyperlite boards. I've been a huge hyperlite guy. Also a huge Shaun Murray fan. Watch his vids. I Also learned years ago to cover my head when I wipe out so it doesn't split it wide open. Also get easy on bindings. If they are a pain to get on you won't enjoy it. I haven't used my board in a long time in afraid of breaking myself ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Wakeboard Sizing Chart:
Rider Weight (lb) Rider Weight (kg) Wakeboard Length
Up to 90lbs Up to 41kgs 119 โ€“ 122cm
Up to 100lbs Up to 45kgs 121 โ€“ 124cm
Up to 110lbs Up to 50kgs 122 โ€“ 126cm
Up to 130lbs Up to 59kgs 128 โ€“ 132cm
Up to 150lbs Up to 68kgs 131 โ€“ 136cm
Up to 170lbs Up to 77kgs 134 โ€“ 140cm
Up to 190lbs Up to 86kgs 135 โ€“ 142cm
Up to 200lbs Up to 91kgs 138 โ€“ 144cm
200lbs + 91kgs + 140cm +

As a beginner I'd go with a 144cm, and get open toe bindings. When you first start leave the bindings loose, they don't need to be tight until you start jumping. I personally am a Ronix guy, I ride a 140cm 2015 Chad Sharp board with closed bindings and love it. For a beginner, get a hydro-slide or some other cheap board. It will be plenty to get you riding, and when you get good enough to know what kind of rocker you want jump into a more expensive board. The hyro-slides are a couple hundred new, a good Ronix will run you $600-800 for a decent setup. Plus, once you get your 'perfect' board after learning you'll have the cheap board as a loaner. Make sure you get a non-stretch rope, preferably with segments to tune line length as you progress.

Good stuff akor.
Ronix is great stuff.
I just rather spend aN extra 100 or so and not get something real cheap. We got a nice set up for Max a few years ago I think it was around $250.00 hyperlite. Board and boots. I do need a new good rope for him though.

Just remember, DON"T STAND UP when you feel the boat start to pull you. I teach beginners to stay in the heel-to-butt position until the board is on top of the water. This is the #1 reason beginners can't get up.

Alrighty then - wakeboard ordered.

Ronix Vault 2019 144cm and Slingshot Option 2019 bindings (I figure I can move these to a better board later).

What could go wrong? ๐Ÿ˜‚

The Vault is nice board. The 3 stage rocker will make for a good stable ride to learn with, good choice ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
