2003 262 vs 2010 276

Post by jsdittmer »

I thought I would throw this out to the experts.

I currently have a 2003 262 with the arch, extended swim platform, 8.1 Volvo DP, captain call, all the filler cushions and a number of other options. It’s very nice and I like it a lot.

However I’ve been looking at upgrades, mostly a 282 or 302 with twins. Really want the 302 but it’s a bit out of my price range.

However, in my research I’ve come across a some 276’s that while isn’t much more than what I have, it does have a more updated interior design, sink/trash bins, more modern upholstery, etc. I also like the bow cushion design to get to close to the anchor locker, and love the windlass anchor option. I also like the flip down platform but that wasn’t available until 2012. I wonder how the ride compares and the standard 276 swim platform function vs the 262 extended swim platform?

Any insight, info and opinions welcome. Thanks!

262.. fast hull u shape seating . Sexy in any color!

276.. higher freeboard and takes the 272 interior with a glimpse of R series port seating but keeps the 262 captains on most. Windlass 👍🏼

282... yes freeboard gets bigger again and the beam goes 6” wider. It is your 262 big sister. Windlass is common, and appreciated.

Oh they commonly add a spare engine on the 282. Twins Baby!!

Well said Matt. Yes the 282 gets the Double D's in that big sister analogy. :D

Thanks for the feedback guys.

What about just experience of anyone owning a 276 versus the 262? Any opinions on that comparison in any way? How much of an upgrade is that considered?

Definitely the 282 is the 262 big sister, and having twins is a major score. But the layout and design is the same as a 262, so that is still part of my comparison to those who have owned one of those verses a 276, or even the 302 with the different design and layout. I would also throw in there the A28 and the 296.

Thanks again!

I can’t compare a 276 with a 262, however I love my 2009 276 (200 hours on 8.1 Volvo), purchased a month ago.

I absolutely love our 302! Perfect layout for what we use it for, handles LOTO pretty well (which is insanely rough), the 22* deadrise helps big time. My 330ss had 21* and hull slapped really bad.

Love the side transom walk through, super easy for the family. If you can swing it, go bigger. I wish I had a 336 now 😂

Yeah the 302 is my dream boat for sure. Just out of my price range for now, but definitely the boat I aspire to get someday. I decided that even though the 276 is such a nice boat and layout, it wasn’t going to substantially change the ride for me from my 262. I ended up getting a nice 2008 282 which is still a jump up for me to help tackle the insanity of LOTO. It will have to suffice until the day I get that 302 with twin 8.1L, hard top and joystick!

Now I have to fix the steering pump of my 262 that decided to start failing and spew out power steering fluid in my bilge. Timing is always interesting, but I was struggling with some steering anomalies for a while so I’m guessing now it was the pump itself. If anyone has tips on that, please let me know.

I didn’t have my 262 very long, but I did love it and I will miss her, but she just wasn’t big enough for this crazy lake.

Ooh, I also wanted to ask if anyone knows if anyone has retrofitted a hard top like from a 302 onto a 282 Samson SS tower? I think that would be awesome and there has to be away.

Well I was able to make it happen. I got myself a 302 and love it. It’s what I wanted. The combination of a really good resale on my 262 and a decent deal on a really clean 20009 302, allowed me to get what I really wanted. The 282 was really clean as well and would’ve been a nice upgrade, but going for something a little bigger here at LOTO makes a difference! I will upload some pics to the other thread here soon.

My boat didn’t come with the premium sound system, so the subwoofer under the helm seat wasn’t installed. I’ve already upgraded all other speakers and some amps, but was looking for the best place to put a sub. I originally purchased a 12“ wet sounds sub for this, and now find it hard to find a good place for it based on its size. What’s the size of the sub under the helm seat? It’s definitely not a 12“. Is it a 10“? Just curious before I buy another sub. If anyone has done sound system work on a 302 and have any tips, let me know. I actually have two more 6 1/2” wet sound speakers that I was thinking of mounting on the transom, but there’s not much space and the ones I’ve seen there have some sort of adapter kit. My boat actually came with some nice wet sounds tower speakers, so I’m think I’m good there.

Thanks!
