496 mag fuel filter change

Post by Auburnbuilder »

I replaced the fuel filters in my 2005 255 last night.
Checked maintenance records and noticed they were never done.
They may have been the originals as they were very dirty. Easy to do, however filters are expensive, about $100.
I have only had the boat for a year, so I checked and they were definetly needing a change.
Changing filters was really easy. I will post Mercurys instructions on how to change them.
Luckily boat ran perfectly this last summer.

Here are Mercurys instructions for replacing the fuel filter below.
The small white filter in the bottom of housing is easy to replace as well.
Grasp it with a pair of needle nose pliers on the tab in the middle of it and work it out. To Install new one just carefully push it down in to position being careful not to damage it.

Nice documentation AB.
We did this last year too. Fairly straightforward as you mentioned.

I was a little worried about stainless bolts breaking, but they loosened easily.
May be that problem is more of a salt water boat issue.
