Instrument switch names illuminated

Post by krichards »

Stupid question from a noob 2021 R20 dash board. The switches themselves light red wind activated but are the instrument names for the various switches on the dashboard also illuminated? I could have sworn mine were but now they were. I noticed recently I could not read them at night.

Thanks

Hey kr. So glad you found us!

Not sure about your model but I know our 2005 263 does not light the labels. Only the red light illuminates.
Others will chime in shortly.

Any pics?

And welcome aboard mate!

Agree with BB. There's an issue with the EL Wire Inverters. I've had one replaced under warranty so far and replaced one myself because I didn't feel like being off the water to have them fix it. It's a systemic issue and I wish Cobalt would own up to it. I'm sure they're replacing dozens of them.

Sorry, in case you didn't know. Cobalt uses a tech called "EL Wires" (basically a wire that illuminates) that winds its way under the control panels to illuminate each function/word.

Interesting. Maybe I have that and it's inop. I'll have to check. 8-)

You will see a bright orange/red “wire” for each panel. That goes to a 1” x 1” little black cube/box.

Interesting, I have a 2021 R5 that I picked up in May. Never noticed that the panel labels light up. Are they on when with the nav lights or whenever the switch is on

Yeah, mine only light up when the nav lights are on.
When I picked up my boat new, only 1 side of the lights lit up so they came out and fixed it.

I have the same issue, and think I asked the question here a while back, waiting for off season for warranty repair.
