2021 220S Bravo 3

Post by drekar »

2021 Cobalt 220 - now 60 hours....
Wrapping up after running it for several days for a camp (31/2 days - approx 20 hours) and in the last hour - I got a "low drive lube" alarm.

Looked at the reservoir the next morning after pulling out and it was slightly below the minimum line.

Filled to just under the max line and will run this weekend.

Questions:
Why would it go through the lube?
Would there be any damage or concern that it was slightly below the minimum line?

Thank you all.

.
Check for any leaks on the outdrive or the hoses running to the reservoir. However it’s most likely air pockets in the drive which work their way free and lowers your lube slightly. Top off and monitor. Happens more frequently when the lube is changed. We just changed our lube out in a bravo three outdrive last week. Topped off yesterday due to air pockets releasing into the reservoir.

I've never damaged anything from being just a little low on fluids.
Hopefully, you haven't either.

I have never seen a failure because of that with any gearbox/transmission/engine. The failures i have seen from low fuild were because there was a leak and no one ever checked the fuild level and ran them dry. Just check it before every outing to make sure its not a leak or if it is a leak that it is not getting worse.

It will alarm if it gets too low, FYI. I had this issue and always assumed it was due to air, etc. after fluid change. I finally found out that plastic container that holds the gear oil was slowly leaking out of the bottom where the sensor is. The oil would disappear once it left and you could feel it on your finger underneath, had gear oil bottle changed, new one leaked, changed again and solved the problem. At least that was my experience. Doesn't look like they updated that part since my 07', it's in a slightly different location than it was on my 350 though.

My reservoir does same, every fall I change gear lube for winterization, the following year after 20 or so hours of run time I have to top off reservoir, been doing this for 7-8 years and everything seems fine
