Interior Dash Trim

Post by Scooby-Doo »

Morning everybody! Greetings from England.
I have a 2005 Cobalt 240. The wood veneer dash behind the gauges is warping after an epic storm followed by intense heat. I’ve decided to remove and repair all the veneer panels, including the side trim panels (one behind the throttle, the other by passenger’s left elbow). The dash panels look easy to remove but has anyone out there removed the side panels? Do they pop off with a trim removal tool or do I need child labour to get a thin arm up behind the panel to access a bolt?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
(If anybody’s interested, I’m taking the opportunity to change the colour/design of the panels - probably a carbon fibre look, using hydro-graphics. I’ll post pictures of the results, assuming I can get the panels off!)

Hey Scooby. So glad you found us!

Great to have you on the forum with a Cobalt in England. From which area?

We had another member wrap those panels in carbon fiber. I’ll see if I can find the post. I believe those side panels just pop off but need to confirm.

Looking forward to your pics.

And welcome aboard mate!

Thank you Aslan. That’s very kind of you.
I’m from the North West of England but the boat is kept in Croatia - a bit more sun down there!

Well yes that is a bit of a trip to your boat, but I bet the conditions are much better down there.

I have attached a map photo for my friend BBP

Can see it now! Might have been a little too far to make the trip by Cobalt! They’re good, but not that good!

Aslan. Any news on removing the interior trim piece by the throttle? I’m doing it now and wondered whether you know if it is clipped on or bolted from behind?
All the best

Hi Big Block,
Vinyl is fine apart from one minor repair three years ago. Next year we'll need to attend to the top of the rear seat which seems to get the most abuse from water skis and other toys being dragged across it. Have been advised by my hydro graphics guy to remake the dash trim in PVC similar to the stuff used in plastic windows. He says it will be harder wearing than wood which I think is good advice. After 15 years this wood has warped and the varnish is brittle and tired.
Will keep you posted on progress.

Did you know there is a company that makes these.
A7 can probably find a link to them.
I have technograffics stuck in my head.

I removed my wood trim panels and had them redone by Technografic. New Wire Marine also will remake the panels.

see the below link for pictures of the Technografic panels. Samuel Sheldon is great to work with.
