Time to fess up
Time to fess up
It’s my duty to report that over the last two months we sold our 232 and purchased a new to us Formula 310 FX5. We loved our Cobalt and still miss it, but we were looking for something bigger with cabin space that could accommodate an occasional overnight and twin engines in the 30-32ft/10k lbs. range due to storage considerations. We looked at a few Cobalts on the market that were similarly outfitted, but we really started to like the layout and look of the Formula. Also, while the used market may be cooling, the available inventory in our region was pretty slim across the board all spring. Looked at a few Sea Rays, nice but felt like my grandmas Lincoln town car, as well but ultimately landed on the Formula.
Our 232 sold in 36 hours if you need an idea of demand for used boats out there.
Hopefully you won’t banish me immediately! The members on this forum are terrific and amazingly helpful. Still plenty of insight to be gained on common power plants/drives and other systems.
We did love Cobalt and may happily be back again someday! Thanks to all the regulars here answer questions and all the years of combined experience on the forum!

Last cruise on the 232 out to brunch, though we didn’t know it at the time.

Congrats! Beautiful boat
Honestly? If I were wanting a boat 30' and up with a full berth, Formula would also be where I'd look. Much more their wheelhouse than Cobalts. Where as Cobalt has much better options below 30'.

We gave some thought to a 323, definitely an option, but what was available at the time just didn’t fit the bill. We also weren’t really wanting to get in to the full express cruiser set up like the Sundancer plodding around or plowing through the water.
Though, with fuel now around $7 a gallon we aren’t really driving any above best cruise speed anyway…

Congrats! Your always welcome
More pictures the better. The only thing I don't like is how fast off the water the platform is.
I think the r33 will give formula a run. I hope.
You made a great choice!

We won’t cancel your membership quite yet . Thanks for the update on the new boat - comparatives, projects, etc. are always interesting for Cobalt owners too.

Re: Time to fess up
You can tell a formula boat from a mile away on the water. Sexy looking boats IMO. I like your choice here. Cobalt doesnt have a full cuddy option in the 30-33' space so understand moving away.
BBP what do you mean you dont that its fast off the water?

Thanks for the correct interpretation AsLan! yeah I think they all need the extended swim platform option for sure.AsLan7 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 10:15 am.Table Rockin wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:26 am You can tell a formula boat from a mile away on the water. Thanks to all for the well wishes, as always a great group here.
The swim platform does sit higher off the water, but so far hasn’t been much of an issue. There is an extended swim platform available, but we haven’t seen a need for it yet. The 232 had the ladder oriented to the side on the platform, which is better than the offset rear ladder on the forumula, feel like it’s much too close to the drive where is hangs. On the positive side it stows into the platform nicely and is a nice 4 step ladder very easy to climb.
If there is one drawback is this boat still has the old Kohler 5E generator. Would have preferred a westerbeke as this model is no longer produced, so parts may become scarce.

Re: Time to fess up
I sure won’t pick on you selling your Cobalt and buying a Formula. If I ever buy another boat I will definitely be looking at Formula! They make some of the nicest looking performance cruisers out there!

No apology necessary for being on the water on a boat you love.
