1998 Fender Holders

Post by RSoo1 »

Model: 1998 220

This model has the fender wells in front if the windshields. One of the plastic fender cylinder containers was broke off at the rim (top) and missing. The other one is cracked at the rim and barely holding on. I know its minor, but I like the idea.

Any suggestions for replacements?

I was thinking of finding a thin-walled PVC pipe with the right diameter and fiberglassing a lip to match the top cap.

Ebay has them. They look just like mine so hopefully they are like yours. Search cobalt boats

So I was able to find a bumper holder lid on eBay, which is useful, and I might end up buying one, but I’m looking for the tube that lives below this lid. I looked through all 45 plus pages on eBay. The tube is plastic and hangs below the lid in front of the windshield. Picture of the lid:

Any leads on a tube replacement would be appreciated.

Sorry I guess without pictures I'm not sure what you need. Mine are just a nylon net.

Vacuum tubing has that wall thickness ...ever see a store cashier put receipts in that tube, however. I think you might better with a net or a cover with flange & grommets at the top. Make sure you know what size bumper fits. I believe its a Polyform NF-3 bumper. If I saw it on ebay I'd buy two in case. Its black. Anyway let us know thanks I'm thinking you might need a cover/net specially made. Not sure how it attaches

Here’s some pictures of what came with mine.

As you can see, super thin plastic. 3 out of 4 of the top holes where already ripped through. My wife sews, she could probably make a pouch to hang from some sort of attachment.

That exactly what i would do make/design/draw a pouch. The problem is finding the fabric to hold the bumper. The concave shape with a drain hole at the bottom of the pouch may be a problem. I would size the pouch to a polyform bumper because you may find the old basket extra long. Need to sew a flange on the top of the pouch. I would try to find extra small grommets for the flange and use SS hardware and fender washers. Heat from the deck and age destroyed that fender holder. I don't believe I have the screws in my 220. Good luck

Thanks for posting these pictures as I had never seen a Cobalt fender storage setup before.

I wonder if a replacement flange could be 3D printed?

Or you could cut a replacement flange out of some plastic flat stock and then glue that to a very short section of plastic tube, with the short section of new plastic tubing being sized to fit on either the inside or outside of the existing thin tubing. Something like the picture below except with a shorter tube section and made of plastic.

Or a third option might be to just make a replacement flange out of plastic flat stock and use that to reinforce the existing flange. How structurally sound is the existing flange-to-tube connection?

Mine have mesh netting and I tied them in a knot so they don't hang down low and get in the way and I keep my dock lines in them. Fenders I keep in the ski locker.

Update: Crafted some fabric ones. Used some plywood to make the flange. And my wife used the old tubes to pattern a fabric replacement.

Suggest you provide a list of material (BOM) used with sizes. How thick was the plywood, etc.
