Sharing Disastrous Moment

Post by Idahocowboy »

My 1998 232 7.4L Gi recently spent 2 months at my marina replacing transom housing. Expensive endeavor as you can well imagine. Launched boat at public boat launch yesterday. Wife and I cruised the shoreline but needed to get to our dock. Approached the dock and slipped it into neutral. Then forward. Nothing. I put it in reverse, then shifted to neutral. Stayed in reverse and it was a wild ride until I could control the backward moving boat into the slip. Slight bump on dock but no damage. I guess making sure the cotter pin and washer are secured on the shift mechanism is about as important as the drain plug. (Marina showed up straight away and fixed the issue with boat in the water). He wants me to bring it in at a later date and check everything.
