Surf System not activating

Post by Heersonfire »

Hi all, newbie 2020 R7 Surf owner here. When going into surf mode…smart controls -> surf mode…none of my buttons seem to be operational. The little indicator next to manual mode is not green, ballast fill buttons do nothing, etc. Engine is running, in neutral, trim assist deactivated. What could be the problem?

Appreciate the assistance!

Hi AsLan7. Appreciate you jumping in to help. Uploaded a pic of the breakers which all look fine. Also a pic of the Surf screen which none of the buttons do anything and the little indicator light next to manual mode is not green as it should be.

Thanks

Roger that.
Nothing rings a bell off hand.
Let’s let some other forum members chime in and see what options are out there.

I have never see that happen, I would reach out to the dealer.

I would reach out to your dealer, you could try updating the Garmen systems.

Update…when there is no response to the controls on the Surf mode screen and no green light next to Manual mode it indicates no communication between the surf system and the Garmin cockpit glass.

In my case, during transport the NMEA cable came disconnected. I found it in the bottom of the helm compartment. When I reconnected, communication was reestablished and everything started working normally.

Thanks all!

Good to know, was the red "check surf system" light on the dash lit up when it was disconnected?

The red light would come on briefly during engine start up and never come on again. I expected it would start flashing if something was wrong when I entered Surf Mode but that didn’t happen. It was definitely not an indicator of there being a communications problem.
