First Cobalt 2000 246 7.4 Mag MPI

Post by stevet »

Hello all,

I finally found a cobalt after wanting one for years. Previously had Wellcraft and Formula. She is a beautiful blue 246. The boat is a project from orig owner that barely used her. Only 166 hours but sat for years. Engine ran but had a slight knock. Pulled the engine and found one spun bearing.
New bearings in and trying to get her back running.

Nice!

The gelcoat and upholstery look pretty good for being 23 years old. Was she stored indoors?

I assume this is the picture of the upholstery before you’ve had a chance to clean it? It will be interesting to see how well she cleans up.

So glad you found us stevet. We appreciate the pics too.

She should clean up well with only 166 hours. Suprised she has a spun bearing but sounds like you're on top of it.

Be sure to post after pics.

And welcome aboard mate!

Thanks for the Welcome! Yes those are all before pics. The bow upholstery is fine but I have a line on new upholstery for the rear and new cockpit carpet. I think when it’s all done it will look better than new. Have to get the mechanical parts done first.
The boat sat for some years and the oil sludged up which is why the #6 bearing spun. New Mhale bearings, new oil pump and a good engine flush should serve me well.

The inside of the engine looked like it was still breaking in.

Now all I have to solve is the starter won’t engage.
