I was shocked to learn that you can order an R8 OB with 2 Merc or Yamaha outboards. That is 600HP. Does anyone have on equipped that way? I'd love to hear how it performs! BR

Re: R8
This owner didn't particularly care for the ride, which is too bad. Blistering fast boat I bet though

Re: R8
Yeah I'm eventually going to do an R8 with either twin 250's or 300's. The 300's will hit 65mph I think the Verado's will do a bit more than the Yamaha's. There are a few YouTube videos showing the Verado's, I believe they quoted 67mph top end with the 300's.
Here's the Yamaha performance bulletin on the 300's, they also have bulletins with the twin 200's & 250's.

Re: R8
Quick question for the newer COBALT outboard group. Wouldn't it be more efficient for both weight and fuel to get a single 500hp or the 600hp Merc? Are they too heavy for a single transom fit?

Re: R8
No idea on that, but I'd definitely prefer twin 300 to a single 600. Two motors just give you more control even if you don't get the joystick

Re: R8
What I don't get about the outboards is that it takes all of the swim platform. I mean, for a fishing boat sure but a runabout?

Re: R8
I think the idea for the OB boats is to tap into the saltwater market. Even if I had no intention of fishing, I'd still want OBs vs IOs if I primarily used the boat in saltwater.

Much easier to service as well. OB’s in Saltwater I/o in Lake MichiganCobaltDeadHead wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 3:19 pmI think the idea for the OB boats is to tap into the saltwater market. Even if I had no intention of fishing, I'd still want OBs vs IOs if I primarily used the boat in saltwater.
Re: R8
Agree, No interest in a OB and I am in SW. Never understood that thought process. VP is closed cool with only the the exhaust manifolds and risers being a concern, opposed to the entire engine. Dual prop, weight low and within the hull and free access to the stern whether tubing or sitting on a anchor in exchange for more storage just doesn't cut it for me.
