New Monsoon engines

Post by jhnmdahl »

There have been hints that Cobalt is bringing the Monsoon engines (GM/Mercruiser engines) made or tweaked in-house to Cobalt boat soon. They've been doing it with Malibu boats for a while - just curious what info people may have on their adoption into the Cobalt line.

I have heard the same - in looking at the Monsoon engines, they are pretty nice looking with some nice marine oriented features. I asked about them at my dealer (Cobalt/Malibu) and they said that yes Cobalt is introducing Monsoon engines as an option, but are not eliminating MerCruiser or Volvo at this point. I am curious what outdrive they will use, was told Volvo has said no to using their drives, but it sounds like MerCruiser is ok with it. I don't know what other drive options there are -- so might be seeing Monsoon engines with MerCruiser drives. Wonder how an R6 will perform with a 607hp LT4 Monsoon engine in it!
