New member and new 2020 R5 surf ?'s

Post by Adams5xr »

Hi all,
New to the forum and a new to me 2020 R5 surf. What r some of the must haves for the r series. Like...maintenance items to carry onboard. Are there any common issues, particularly items that r known to fail, Surf related issues or add-ons.
Also wanna give the vinyl a good cleaning. With it being textured it looks a little dirty. Product recommendations?

And cleaning recommendations for the out drive. It's grimmy from sitting at a lake berth. It also has some what looks like hard water scaling as well.

I'm very pituitar about maintenance and keeping things looking new. Boat has 180 hrs

Thanks

So glad you found us A5….and post a pic or two if you get a chance. How is she powered?

We’ve used Mcquiars, Boat Bling, magic eraser, and other similar products on the vinyl. Depending on the stain, each have their advantages. Big thing is to keep any cleaner from getting on the threads as it can deteriorate them. Also coat with Vinyl Sauce or something similar for protection.

Toilet bowl cleaner works wonders on outdrives.

Others will chime in shortly.

And welcome aboard mate!

"And cleaning recommendations for the out drive."

What I've done:

50/50 water/bleach (or industrial cleaner). Spray on, let sit about 15'. Then power wash (the grime, not the paint).

Once, my drive was way beyond "grimmy." Had to use 50/50 muriatic acid (with gloves, goggles, mask). Then power wash.

If you use toilet bowl cleaner, use the 3X.

Decided to order some 303 products. can get these the quickest and for a variety of different materials. Will definitely try the toilet bowl X3 on the drive.
