If you can find a part number stamped somewhere that would work to look it up too.

Do you have a Volvo or Merc hh54?

Yes, a pic would be great!👍🏻

It's a merc. I think the drive was black?
That's why I suggested the Alpha 3 drive.

Ok. Time to Frankenstein this thread.

I want a stainless. 1.51/1.6 I think. It’s early in this thread. Back when it was just John and I - then BB came on the scene like a whirling dervish.

Everything still applies. I’d like to be hitting mid 50’s on the top end but quicker hole shot. Maybe a 4 banger. Help please

Can we recap a bit? You're currently running an aluminum 3 blade 21 pitch right? And only seeing 4300 RPM wide open? What kind of passenger/cargo load was that with? Was the weather hot?

Then you went to a 4 blade 19 pitch stainless correct? And still saw the same 4300 RPM wide open? Same outside temp, same passenger load, etc?

If that's all correct, I'd try a 4 blade 17 pitch to try and increase your wide open RPM. Should give you a better hole shot too.

When I switched from my 3 blade 23p Mirage to a 4 blade 21p Rev4 I saw the same wide open RPM & speed, better hole shot with the Rev4, and it felt like it "stuck" to the water more.

That sounds right. I have to go through my notes a bit... probably this thread as well. You like the rev 4 though?

Did I mention I’d like one specifically made for a Volvo sx drive? BB always calls me a goof because I don’t want to use a kit.

Yeah I like it quite a bit. Lost 1 mph off the top end, but who cares about that, better hole shot, no ventilation when pulling tight turns, etc. If I were going somewhere like a poker run where everyone just cruises fast I'd swap the Mirage back on, but otherwise I'm planning to stick with the Rev4.

I'm not familiar with VP-specific props, but as I said above my thought is a 17 pitch 4 blade, should give you an extra 150-200 RPM and put you near the middle of your WOT RPM range.

You said docking was wonky with the 4 blade...what do you mean by that? I didn't pay any attention to the behavior change of the Rev4 vs Mirage when doing docking maneuvers. Didn't notice any difference but I didn't have a lot of dock maneuvering time on the Mirage before I pulled it off either.

Holy crap Batman :-)
You crack me up Volvo specific :-) :-) :-)
That's why they make the removable hub. You can adapt it to any engine. With that hub your mercury made prop is now a Volvo specific prop.lol
I have to go way way back to see where your rpms are at and what you tried. But was that other 190 using? Did he have the same engine as you? 4 blades should not change your docking characteristics. If anything I would have thought it would have helped it. Again. Bblades will help you and let you exchange props. Give them a call as well.

Fun thread to read.. Did you ever get your ratio. Im guessing the 1.61 as 1.50 is less common it seems.

3 Blades are going to be faster than a 4 blade due to how much blade contact you make with water. The four blade will have a good bit and less slip at cruise speeds.. so theres the trade off for one.

Diameter plays a big role when your spinning a Prop as your old prop was 14.50 inches the Stainless version is 14.75. As you go up in diameter it also starts to put more blade in the water so keep an eye when prop shopping as the big the prop diameter can also reduce speed. (even with the same pitch.) and even trimmed to the moon if too big in diameter.

Lastly 3 blade prop that promotes bow rise will help speed as these hulls are not stepped to air out on the own and putting a 4 blade prop may give you stern lift that wont help your speed you looking for.

As BB stated you want to know you can get to you rev limiter in light passenger and fuel loads as too much prop can be a strain as its actually is lugging at cruise speeed and never freeing up completely to run faster at WOT.

So pal in closing be careful when your dealing with a Low Horsepower power and Torq combo, as it will be less forgiving to change and will quickly tell you when you go too big..

Here the Volvo guide I looked at. Part numbers are in Aluminum and Stainless. (pages 6-7)

Bump.

3860709 is the prop I'm looking for... I think.

I love going big and fast.. one concern I have though is your going up 4p in pitch which I like.. but.. your going from a 14.25 to 14.75 in diameter..

That's the only holdback as how deep these drives run already in the water at all trim levels.. ( x dimension down) that slows things down .

Fun to try a 21p but at 400.00 maybe consider a finding a 14.75 x 19.or if you could find the same 14.25 x 21p ( aftermarket). that would better.

I know you want stainless and I agree but there is a small sacrifice 😎

Hmmm. You think it'll slow me down? I already can't get to top RPM. This is what Cobalt recommends for my boat. Should get 52 at 4500 according to them.
